Obama to shift some Michigan staff to other battleground states
Source: DetNews

Barack Obama's presidential campaign is moving portions of its Michigan staff to other battleground states, the Detroit News has learned.

Democratic sources in Michigan said Wednesday they feared as many as 100 paid staffers could be leaving the state, but an Obama campaign source said the number was smaller.

The campaign source said the Obama campaign would still have about 200 paid staffers in Michigan, and that none of the campaign's field offices in the state would close.

The campaign plans to open its 61st Michigan office, in Detroit, this weekend.

Makes sense.....his poll margins here are as high as in Mass. and California....
..... Put the resources where they're most needed. He still advertises quite a bit in Michigan.

6. I wouldn't put it that way....
Michigan did have legitimate complaints wherein their votes were not going to be counted. I see it as Obama making the necessary amends to Michigan voters...which means Obama came to his senses.

10. Obama always had his senses.
What was nonsensical was jockeying the primary schedule to lengthen this campaign and create divisiveness within the DNC. That was everyone's fault. Not just Obama's... Any solution after that was a bad one... disallowing Michigan's votes?, Splitting them in two? It was all a bad idea, and there wasn't a good way to solve that problem. Can you really tell me that a primary that only showed one of the candidates on the ballot was a good idea?

Please. Let's not flog that dead horse.

"...ever put in place in Michigan by a presidential candidate."

2. I agree
It makes sense. I'm SO HAPPY that Michigan came to its senses and is going for Obama big time. As Anne Lamont from Salon said in a column about the financial situation: "The anxiety has been purgatory--not heaven, not hell, but perma-suck." That says it all. Perma-suck! From what I'm hearing, the blood-red western part of the state where I live has the potential to become a lovely shade of purple or even blue come November 5. A HUGE GM plant is closing here in GR next year, and folks are pissed at the repubs. Besides, there are lots of volunteers in the state (like me & my DH) willing and ready to pick up the slack.

KEEP MICHIGAN BLUE!!!!! :bounce:

7. I read it's the GM plant at 36th and Buchannan
That's a lot of jobs gone. I live in Warren, now, but I grew up in Kentwood in the 70s and early 80s. Lots of my friends' dads worked at that plant, although I think back then it was called "Fisher Body".

Boy, GR has changed. Devos owns all the hospitals, except St. Mary's and the osteopathic one. I drove by EKHS yesterday (I was in the area for work), and the whole campus looks different than it did in 1982, when I graduated. There's a freeway next to it and strip malls all around it. When I went there, the school still was surrounded by farms on two sides!

Thank God Arnies and Yesterdog are still around! Along with the Beltline Bar and Cherie Inn!

11. That's the plant
It's been 2 days and it's still dominating the local news. Boy, you do know Grand Rapids! I work for GVSU in the Cook-DEVOS (ugh) Science Building. You can't get away from DeVos & VanAndel around here--especially the top of Michigan Street hill by Butterworth Hospital.

Take care,

Diane

3. This isn't a bad thing
Although the article tries to spin it that way, this seems to be because he is doing so well in the state and has such a strong operation there even with staff reallocations to other states. This is good, he can send staff to states that are closer in the polls and bolster in ground game ina wider area.

4. This is a very good decision
Many of the counties where they have several staffers also have strong county parties and lots of willing volunteers. Where there were maybe 4-5 staffers they can make due with two and lean more on all those energized activists and party people!

I can tell you first hand that n'ary a region in the state has gone unworked. They've been on the ground for months and have built a truly amazing effort. Brilliant.

9. It almost looks like North Carolina and North Dakota...
Could be battlegrounds now. At this rate we'll be polling strongly across the Red States! Right on!

Depression and Anxiety are still toss-ups...

Only problem is - they're mcINSANE's base, so I doubt he'll make much headway...
