Illinois Democrat Teams Up With Former Political Foe (Rahm Emanuel and Boone Pickens)
Source: Chicago Public Radio

Illinois Democrat Rahm Emanuel appears to have found an ally in a former political opponent.

T. Boone Pickens is best known as a wealthy Texas oil man. But he was also a major funder of the Swift Boat ad campaign against Democratic Presidential candidate John Kerry in 2004, contributing at least $2 million to the cause. Now for years, U.S. Representative Rahm Emanuel has busily advocated for Democrats on a national scale. So when Emanuel introduced Pickens at a meeting today in Chicago, he cut to the chase.

EMANUEL: Now I know a number of people would've thought this is the most unlikely pair that you would ever find.
PICKENS: Not anymore.
EMANUEL: That's right. Nothing like a crisis to get two people who disagree on everything to find an agreement and try to come together.

Pickens was in Chicago to promote his energy reform plan. He says the U.S. depends too much on foreign oil and should diversify its own energy production.

1. Anyone surprised by that hasn't been paying attention.
Emanuel isn't the party... he's just one more triangulating DLCer.

4. Emanuel isn't the party?
Perhaps someone should tell the DC Dems. He leads them around by the nose. Rahm is the one responsible for pushing out of Dem primaries anyone who is not a Bush Dog. The majority we have this November will be a majority made up of a whole new batch of Rahm recruits.

22. Why is anyone listening to him?!
He humiliated himself just like Carville... they should be listening to Dean.

If Dean agrees with him on the necessity of Bush Dogs *ptui* then fine I guess. But still... *ptui*

CALM DOWN. Ok, you don't like these people. Boo-hoo. However, maybe some actual work can get done. Maybe there is a plan with a decent chance to make it past the stage of "plan" that would actually help us all. Don't shoot the messenger.

10. With these people (Bush Dogs) in charge of the "plan"
no one will be helped except the rich and famous.

These people (Bush Dogs) are advocates for the elite, the elite and only the elite. These people are not just the messenger, they are the message.

12. so you don't want to expand wind power? You'd rather keep blowing up mountains for coal?
I don't care who gets the monetary profit, because we all benefit. I'd rather have some sleaze ball get money for doing the right thing than have nothing get done.

13. These Bush Dogs only want to expand things they can sell at a profit, like clean coal and Natural Ga
Things such as wind, solar and tidal are all industries which need plenty of money to develop before they become profitable and the Bush Dogs are avidly against them.

Bush Dogs are greedy and don't care one whit about the environment. They want their profits and they want it now. The Bush Dogs are the ones who joined hands with GOPers to cancel all legislation for credits for wind, solar and tidal. The Bush Dogs want Boone Pickens and his dirty energy plan. Profits.

17. It's a crock of shit being sold gold. The taxpayer subsidizes all that land for Pickens and he OWNS
Edited on Wed Oct-15-08 12:15 PM by blm
all the water rights right when we're heading into what will be decades of water wars.

That 'land' Pickens has targeted sits on top of the US's largest aquifer. Controlling that water will mean controlling a hell of a LOT of thirsty states and their lawmakers.

Not to mention the natural gas bonanza he'll score along with the other oilsharks who joined him in funding the swifts and Bush's career for two decades.
