Obama raises $150 million in September
Source: msnbc.com

WASHINGTON - Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama reports raising more than $150 million in September in an unprecedented eruption of political giving.

The influx of money has helped the Illinois senator expand the field of competitive states and has widened his financial advantage over Republican rival John McCain.

The monthly figure pushed Obama's total fundraising to $605 million, unseen before in presidential politics. The campaign offered no details, but must submit a monthly report to the Federal Election Commission on Monday.

Obama's numbers are possible because he opted out of the fall campaign's public financing system. McCain chose to be in the system, which limits him to $84 million for the September-October stretch before the election.

6. Last week, there were rumors about it being > $80,000,00
and Obama's campaign jokingly dodged confirming that figure, opting to wait.

Yesterday people were posting that it was $100,000,000. But now??? OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!

23. Unwilling to give to McCain ...

I think what we are seeing is that people just plain don't like McCain. Republicans revile him. They may vote for him to spite a Democrat, but in general they won't give him any money. Corporate types are seeing the devastating effects of Republican policies. They are seeing the pyramid schemes collapse before their eyes and they know there must be some regulation if they expect to sustain business activities.

The era of "greed is good" is officially over. Unfortunately, the free traders are still around. Some are morphing into fair traders. In the next cycle it will be our imperative to get rid of the free traders as this will be easy in the face of the oncoming depression.

8. One of the things the republican operatives miscalculated is the amount of disposable
income Obama supporters would possess and donate. Between job insecurity, inadequate pay, rising expenses for food, shelter, and medical care, etc., I honestly believe they thought we would have no money left to donate and vote our way out of our morass.

They figured wrong. There are too many of us who want this too much. We'll find the money.

24. In 2000 a friend told me ...

In 2000 a friend told me he "was in it for the money". He was in it for the tax breaks. He really didn't care what would happen to the economy or the infrastructure of the nation. He just wanted to keep more of what he earned.

I think people are starting to see the devastating effects of the "lower taxes at any cost" mentality. The nations infrastructure is crumbling. No doubt I think it's hitting home to many that the Republicans are the grasshopper party and the Democrats are the ant party.

17. It has ALWAYS been true that we have the *numbers*...
What we never had before was a cost effective vehicle for donation. It would have been FAR too expensive to collect $5, $10, $15 dollar donation before the internet made it possible for so many people to express themselves with their pocketbook.

Simple math. There have always been more of us than them.

25. GOPprobably thinks the $$ came from ACORN, too
Has there ever been a stupider group of people than today's Republican Party? They clearly have no idea what they're talking about on the supposed-muddled-FUBAR'd-voter fraud/ACORN/mortgage(??) talking point.

But, just wait for one of them to say, probably today or tomorrow, that this money came from the same place as the "fake" voter registrations.

In other words, I fully expect the GOP to try to say that imaginary people gave this money.

We're winning, and it's about damn time.

Dean started it. Obama perfected it. We have turned the tables on the Republican's three decades of financial advantages. In our coffee stained t-shirts, pajamas and bathrobes, from our basements, home offices, and cubicles, with our Visa and Master Cards, we Blogbarians are changing the way the game is played.

it also helps that bush keeps on appearing on tv and reminding people how much he and the repubs have messed everything up!!

not tooting my own horn since I know others have been much more involved for much longer and probably given more money too but I donated in sept, the only time I have ever donated in politics, and part of the reason was my complete and utter disgust over Palin
unfortunately, that was one of the things motivating me to donate urgently
