Ailing U.S. economy may cost Republicans big
Source: Reuters

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Fear and anger about the U.S. economy may cost the Republicans big-time in next month's election -- and give Democrats a 60-seat majority in the 100-member U.S. Senate for the first time 30 years.

<snip>

Nevertheless, a 60-seat majority in the 100-seat Senate would mean the Democrats would not have to cut deals with Republicans to move legislation, including promised measures to roll back tax cuts for the rich, increase regulation of the financial markets and stimulate the economy.

On the other side of the U.S. Capitol, Democrats, who control the House of Representatives 235-199, are expected to gain as many as two dozen seats in the November 4 election, up to twice as many as anticipated just a few weeks ago.

"Things have gone from bad to worse for Republicans," said Nathan Gonzales of the nonpartisan Rothenberg Political Report, which tracks congressional elections.

"Fairly or unfairly, they (Republicans) have taken most of the blame for the economic crisis and Democrats have leveraged this to their advantage," Gonzales said.

7. Just so we don't kid ourselves about the truth

which is that our current economic problems were and are a bipartisan effort.

And that big finance who were behind our current problems are writing our economic policy, just as Cheney invited big oil to write our energy policies.

Apparently with Obama's approval btw.

Just want our glasses to be clear rather than rose-colored about our corrupt system.

12. I agree...And with this current economic situation
Unfortunately both parties signed off on this legislation to allow the taxing of the poor and working class to benefit the rich who are responsible for creating this mess. Both parties signed off on taxation without representation with its taxing of us and paying off foreign corporate interests. The carbon tax will be the same thing. Taxing the poor and working class and representing corporate interests while corporate interests pay out kick-backs and plush job opportunities to both party officials. Its an oligarchy and we are its serfs.

5. "Things have gone from bad to worse for Republicans,"
Oh yeah, baby!
I LOVE IT!
BAD TO WORSE!

This has been an amazing three days for our side.

The Chicago Tribune endorses Obama.
The New York Daily News, the Denver Post, the Atlanta Journal all follow.
100,000 plus under the Gateway arch in St. Louis and then another 75,000 plus in Kansas City.
ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY MILLION DOLLARS WITH 650,000 IN NEW DONATIONS.

"Things have gone from bad to worse for Republicans,"

That ain't good enough for me.

I want things to go from worse to humiliating from humiliating to devastating from devastating to the rolling out the barrels of red kool-aid.

"Come my brothers and sisters, do not be afraid, drink, drink, drink"

See ya Republicans.
It wasn't very nice at all to have known you all these years.

6. And the DLC Dems will claim that their collusion and spinelessness
were the right tactics because it got them a majority, and so they'll continue to collude and be spineless.

14. I worry about that too
They'll do their best to equate public anti-Repuke sentiment with pro-quisling sentiment. God help us if they succeed in convincing anyone of that. Happily, it's a pretty fuckin' thin assertion, so it shouldn't be too tough to beat.

17. Ummm... I suspect a wakeup call in about 2 years or sooner
I plan to be DINO hunting in the next set of democratic primaries in 2 years and 4 years.

We might even get some new members with enough gumption to force changes in the
leader(less)ship:puke: of the house and senate.
