At least five Chase banks hit with letter threats
Source: Reuters

Mon Oct 20, 2008 8:20pm EDT

DENVER (Reuters) - At least five branches of Chase bank in Colorado and Oklahoma received threatening letters on Monday, some containing an unidentified white powder.

A spokeswoman for Chase said the letters were delivered to three branches in the Denver area and locations in Oklahoma City and Norman, Oklahoma.

Some of the envelopes contained the white powder, Chase spokeswoman Mary Jane Rogers said, and one employee was treated for a rash as a precaution, but it was not clear if the skin irritation was caused by the powder or had already been there.

She identified the Colorado branches as being in Lakewood and Arvada.

Fire Marshal Kevin Ferry of the Cunningham Fire Protection District near Denver said the powder in one package was found to be harmless, though the substance had yet to be identified.

That branch was inside a supermarket in the Denver suburb of Centennial. The supermarket was evacuated as a precaution.

Several bank employees who had close contact with the package were sent to a local hospital for evaluation, he said.

30 powder-laced letters sent to banks

By LARA JAKES JORDAN, Associated Press Writer Lara Jakes Jordan, Associated Press Writer – 28 mins ago

WASHINGTON – Federal authorities are investigating at least 30 letters containing suspicious powder that have been sent to banks in seven cities.

The FBI said initial tests on the powder have come up negative for dangerous toxins. Additional tests are ongoing.

A law enforcement official said Tuesday the letters were mailed to Chase bank branches in Chicago, Cincinnati, Dallas, Denver, Newark, New Jersey, Oklahoma City and Washington.

The letters all appear to be from the same source, and began showing up at the banks on Monday, the official said. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the matter publicly.

He killed himself as the investigation was closing in on him. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruce_Ivins

25. Welcome to DU.
We tend to be a skeptical bunch, and wikipedia is not convincing here. You might want to get some background to learn of the lengths that the PTB, namely Wall St through the CIA, will go to get their way. I would suggest "Confessions of an Economic Hit Man" by John Perkins as a start. You could also read "The Politics of Heroin" by Alfred McCoy. Anyway, Judith Miller should have convinced you that the corporate press doesn't come close to the truth if the truth conflicts with the Wall St POV. So when the corporate press names an anthrax suspect, I assume he's innocent.

BTW, you did know that the real anthrax was mailed on 9/11/01, right? (coincidental, no?) And that only (well placed opposition) Democrats and The National Enquirer got those letters?

Bill

21. Letter threats to Chase Bank grow past 30: FBI
Source: Reuters

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - At least 30 Chase bank offices in nine U.S. states have been targeted by threatening letters, many of them containing an unidentified powder, an FBI spokesman said on Tuesday.

At least five Chase branches in Colorado and Oklahoma received the letters on Monday and some contained a white powder, Chase had said.

"Today we're well over two dozen," FBI spokesman Rich Kolko said. "To the best of my knowledge they're all Chase." An FBI statement later said more than 30 letters were being investigated.

He declined to characterize the threats but said he was unaware of any connection to recent troubles in the U.S. financial system.

"At this point, field tests on the powder have been negative," for harmful substances, Kolko said. He said local laboratories will do more testing...>
