“Joe the Plumber” gets a bail out
Source: KEX1190

Samuel “Joe” Wurzelbacher, a 34 year old Ohio resident, asked Democratic Presidential Nominee Barack Obama a question about how his business would be affected by the Obama tax plan. Republican Presidential Nominee John McCain picked up on the question and brought it into the national spotlight during their final debate.

It turns out that Wurzelbacher owes $1,200 in back taxes and needs $500 to pay for a plumber’s license.

NewsRadio 1190 KEX’s afternoon hosts Mark Mason and Dave Anderson from Portland, Oregon heard of Wurzelbacher’s plight and wanted to help. Mason and Anderson secured the website http://www.savejoetheplumber.net/ and started accepting donations. The goal was to cover Wurzelbacher’s tax bill and plumber’s license. By the weekend, $1,821 had been raised from donations coming from 31 states.

...

Mark & Dave talked with Joe on Monday afternoon and told him they had rasied money to help him cover back taxes and his plumber's license.

"Let me thank your listeners", said Joe. "Thanks isn't enough, you have my deepest gratitude. I really appreciate it. I hope I didn't hurt any of you. I really appreciate it".

from some homeless person, or anybody else on welfare:

GIVE IT TO THEM!

What you just received from the radio station is WELFARE. See, people need help now and then. McCain doesn't want to help you. Obama does.

Asshat.

14. and remember, it takes more than $250K to buy a $250k earning business
He would have to offer x times $250K to buy it. If a business earns $250K a year, you don't just give them $250K.

So.... is it now Joe the Socialist? Funny, the people supporting him will complain about students getting handouts to go to school, but not if their own guy gets a handout. Obama and Biden should mention that, or at least a surragate or two.

21. My business is very successful, but doesn't clear $250K in profits yet.
With nearly $2M in sales per year, I wouldn't want to sell the business for less than $5M, but my net profit per year is not yet $250K. I could seriously use Obama's tax cut!

BTW, I've been in the same manufacturing business nearly 15 years.

43. Good on you. Joe the P-man is lost on this issue
Obviously he has no means to buy any business, let alone one kicking off a quarter mil in profits.

Considering that the taxable profit is after all sorts of real cash expenses (payroll, utilities, rents, etc.), plus loads of "paper" expenses (accelerated depreciation, e.g.) it really becomes a stretch calling a business netting over a quarter million a "small business."

My business has some years here and there where we net more than that, but we have loads of loss carry-forwards, so it would take us 4 knockout years to get above that level, and that ain't happening under the Bush/McCain economics.

17. Brother can you spare a dime?
They used to tell me I was building a dream, and so I followed the mob,
When there was earth to plow, or guns to bear, I was always there right on the job.
They used to tell me I was building a dream, with peace and glory ahead,
Why should I be standing in line, just waiting for bread?

Once I built a railroad, I made it run, made it race against time.
Once I built a railroad; now it's done. Brother, can you spare a dime?
Once I built a tower, up to the sun, brick, and rivet, and lime;
Once I built a tower, now it's done. Brother, can you spare a dime?

23. Maybe Joe is a victim .................
Maybe Joe is a victim, not unlike about 299 million Americans.
And Sarah Palin.
They got caught up in desperate attempts by the party that is
about to be relegated to history's trashbin for at least a
generation to steal another election.

If that party does come back in a generation or so, they won't
be able to take up where they left off. With the Internet and
the awakening of millions of people like the ones who run this
website and the posters whose comments are seen here,
rewriting history is a thing of the past.

Read it and weep all who rely on the short, faulty memories of
who said and did what a few years ago. We may be on the cusp
of learning from history and NOT repeating it.

One can hope.

32. you said it!
This republiCON tool got used and then exposed. It was stupid. He makes no where near the amount he claimed. Didn't he join in on the 'spreading the wealth' nonsense? The sad part is, he's been reinforced for lying. He made the whole thing up when talking to Obama, got exposed and then people started a website to bail him out. There are people clearly more deserving of the help than this fool, but I hope it opens his eyes. With a middle class tax break, people like Joe will be able to pay for these things themselves and not have to rely on the charity of others.

I can take care of myself.

I've been to several movies in the last year and I was hoping to buy Warner Brothers but I can't because I won't be able to afford to pay the taxes.

Hey I just remembered; I have a bunch of medical bills and student loans piling up.

45. This assclown owes back taxes,
has no plumbing license, and can't afford to get one either (is the $500 the test or license fee?). But he's worried he'll have to pay more taxes on the $250,000 he's gonna get from doing what exactly? From the brief images I've seen of him, he doesn't look like porn film star material. He obviously isn't smart enough to deal drugs or put a meth lab together.

He is buying no business clearing $250,000/yr which would probably be selling for $3 or 4 million - number of employees - does the selling price include inventory, trucks, tools? He cannot get a loan w/ a tax lien - not in this economy.

Figures he's a publican. Keep voting against your own interest, joe. You'll be lucky to see $50,000/yr.

http://www.toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20081020/NEWS09/810200336

snip: He said he wouldn't accept offers to pay off his outstanding tax lien, which he said he didn't even know existed.

"That don't sit well with me," he said. "I was raised to work for what I got. I have two strong legs, two strong arms, and a good back."

He added, "Right now my company is shut down, but even if I got to clean toilets, I'm going to make the money to pay my house payments and the back taxes that I didn't even know I had."
--------------------------------------------------
That's odd that his company would be shut down. I know it was only a two man operation but why isn't the other guy working? Sounds like ole' Joe caused all kinds of problems.
