Palin testifies to investigator in ethics dispute
Source: Yahoo News

ST. LOUIS – Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin testified before an independent investigator Friday about allegations she abused her powers during a long-running personnel controversy that has now distracted from her Republican vice presidential campaign. Palin waved but did not speak to reporters when she arrived at a Missouri hotel for her deposition, scheduled to last two hours before a lawyer from the Alaska Personnel Board. The board is investigating whether Palin abused her powers by firing her public safety commissioner.

The commissioner claims he was dismissed because he refused to fire Palin's former brother-in-law, a state trooper involved in a messy divorce from Palin's sister. The scandal, known as "Troopergate," took on national significance after John McCain selected Palin as his running mate.

"She's been looking forward to this day," Palin's attorney, Thomas Van Flein, said Friday. "She would like to tell her story and she'd like people to know the truth."

A legislative investigation found that Palin had every right to fire the commissioner, Walter Monegan. But the report found that Palin violated state ethics laws by trying to get her former family member kicked off the force.

2. Curious..
"She's been looking forward to this day," Palin's attorney, Thomas Van Flein, said Friday. "She would like to tell her story and she'd like people to know the truth."

But unfortunately, the truth and the Thrilla from Wasilla haven't yet been introduced.

7. Ready to be Flamed for pointing out the truth

In all fairness, Palin filed this complaint against herself....She did so trying to avoid the recent investigation by the legislature. She said it was a personnel matter, and not a matter for the legislature. Of course the legislature ignored her and did their job and investigated anyway.

8. She filed the complaint with the board filled with members that SHE appointed
presuming that they would gloss over her transgressions. She was horrified and chagrined when her hand-picked members went and brought in a tough, independent, Democratic investigator. She made a big deal out of saying that THIS board's findings would be the ultimate report because she was certain she had stacked the deck, never dreaming that her cronies would do this to her.

So now you have the legislative report that finds she's broken ethics laws, and odds are that this board will also find against her. Double whammy.

9. Agreed
Didn't imply that her motive was respectable, just pointed out why she might be "looking forward to it."

10. On DU it's important to lay out all of the 'truth".
You can't defend Sarah Palin's decision to have this board investigate her without making sure the FACTS of why she initiated their investigation are also crystal clear.

Welcome to DU.

13. Stupid bitch
She's already indicted herself by referring to "Troopergate" as "Tasergate" the other day. Doesn't that clearly imply that the whole mess DOES revolve around her ex-brother in law, the taserer in question?

Thrilla from Wasilla.

3. Palin ...
palin

(v) to abandon one's principles for short term gain.

11. Sure she's been looking forward to it
Which is why she and her legal team were advising witnesses to dodge subpoenas, not show up to testify, and why she herself has been running all over the country to avoid having to talk to investigators.

By the way, that picture of her looks like a bass that just got boated.
