(California first lady) Shriver against a ban on gay marriage
Source: Associated Press

California's first lady says she is voting against a ballot initiative that would prohibit same-sex couples from getting married in California.

Maria Shriver said in an interview with KNBC-TV in Los Angeles that she is voting no on Proposition 8.

Shriver said, "I believe in people's right to choose a partner that they love, and that's a decision that I have come to, and I have felt that way for a long time."

2. I saw her on Oprah last week. She said that one of the people in her family
was going to be very disappointed after election day, and it sure was not going to be her...

I will never understand what she saw in that big, dumb blond guy.

10. Maria and Ahnold are show biz people as well as politicians. I think that influences their attitude
... toward gays. Sure you can be a homophobe in Hollywood, but it must make daily life kinda hard.

I am very glad that ultimately neither has sold their soul for the expedience of pandering to the right wing religious vote on this issue.

11. Well, she IS a Shriver........
I think the first clause in her statement above says it all. We shouldn't judge her on the awful, awful choice she made, because it is HER choice.

13. Sargent Shriver is Opus Dei?
How did he end up being a decent fellow and not a rabid right-wing nut like Antonin Scalia and others?

14. Not necessarily
He might just be into doing 'God's work.' Not all Opus Dei are rabid right-wing reactionaries.
