Quicksilver to correct minimum-wage breach
Source: Kansas City Star

Some industry pay practices for delivery vehicle drivers have backfired on Quicksilver Express Courier Inc.

The same-day delivery company ran afoul of federal minimum-wage law by misclassifying drivers as exempt from overtime pay and by deducting from drivers’ pay the costs of company-provided GPS systems in their vehicles as well as the costs of employer-required insurance.

The combined deductions pushed the wages of about 950 workers below mandatory minimum-wage levels, according to a U.S. Department of Labor investigation.

A voluntary settlement, announced Monday by the department’s Wage and Hour division, required Quicksilver to pay $590,039 in unpaid minimum wage and overtime pay to the affected workers.

1. But nobody goes to jail for attempted theft. Labor gets no respect.
That's really what ploys like that are: attempted theft. Conspiracy to steal. They should be prosecuted as the felonies they are, but as with the politicians who pass laws that trash the Constitution, if you're rich and powerful there's no criminal penalty for being caught. Only the poor have to pay for their failed thefts.

And we wonder why we're always in the gyppo?

2. Yep. These so called "white collar" crimes would drop......
........by 75% if you just started prosecuting the criminals like you say. These ass holes would think twice again after they spent 3 to 5 in a cell with Juan, Willie, and Clyde and as an added bonus for them, would never ever be constipated again.

3. But if they imprisoned the white collar criminals...
...there'd be no room for Jamal after they caught him with a half ounce of weed! White collar criminals don't hurt anyone, but Jamal might sell that weed to a baby! Just think of the children!!!! :eyes:
