NBC Expected to Give 10 P.M. (every weeknight) Show to Leno
Source: New York Times

NBC is expected to announce Tuesday that it has signed its late-night star Jay Leno to a new contract that will keep him at the network in a new format that will give him the 10 p.m. time period each weeknight for a show similar to the one he has done on NBC’s “Tonight Show” show since 1993.

... No broadcast network has ever before offered the same show in prime time five nights a week. Such so-called “stripped shows” have been a staple of daytime broadcasting.

... The daily program with Mr. Leno would effectively cut back the number of hours NBC needed to fill each week from 22 to 17.

Edited on Mon Dec-08-08 08:25 PM by RamboLiberal
NBC where they show 30 Rock, umpteen editions of Law & Order, and the way over the hill ER etc.

I should check out 30 Rock - but otherwise there's not one show on NBC or ABC I watch any more.

CBS I still watch Amazing Race, Cold Case and Criminal Minds.

Mountain TIme Zone. Leno thus comes on at 10:30. Always been that way... Perhaps you had your watch set to Pacific time zone.

around the state for 10 days, I think I only spent one night in Denver. Another weird thing was radio stations that played all types of music and there were a lot of all religious stations like down south, I loved it there though beautiful country.

They'll be competing for the same guests in the same town five nights a week. It doesn't sound like a good idea to put two shows with the same format almost back-to-back.

24. I guess they are really scared he's still popular.
I don't get why they are replacing him in the first place. I know they supposedly want to get someone who appeals to younger viewers but is Conan really going to accomplish this goal? It's also going to cut 5 hours out of their schedule and NBC will likely cut shows that may have stayed had they needed to fill up their schedule (I'm personally worried about Chuck). I don't watch any of the late night shows so I'm not all that concerned but NBC decisions just don't make to me.

There's only one thing I like about the tonight show, and that Headlines on Mondays, a bit that he stole from Carson. Other than that the man's routine is old, stale, and should stay in the late night slot.

Is NBC trying to kill itself?

What idiots. They must be painfully hurting for money if they can't do ten pm shows for their line up. Where is Law and Order going?

We really are in a depression. Now they have to worry about local stations pulling away and putting in reruns or movies.

to ABC or Fox and thus make the late night compeition a 3 way thing vs. 2. They lost half their audience when they didn't do the right thing by Dave 15 years ago.

They can't go back on Conana cause he'll just jump to ABC or Fox.

Its also kind of sad to see how far NBC has fallen. 10 years ago no one could even touch them. After they lost Seinfeld and Friends there was nothing left. How Zucker still has a job boggles my mind.
