Mugabe should go, U.S. ambassador says
Source: UPI

WASHINGTON, Dec. 11 (UPI) -- The U.S. ambassador to Zimbabwe, citing a "man-made humanitarian crisis," Thursday echoed world leaders who want Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe out.

"It is time for Mugabe to go," said Ambassador James McGee. "He's outlived his usefulness in Zimbabwe."

The current humanitarian crisis in Zimbabwe -- including a cholera outbreak -- is linked to the political crisis, McGee said during a news briefing.

It boggles the mind that this guy is still in power.

4. This does nothing to help the situation.
Many Zimbabweans will rally around Mugabe simply out of nationalist sentiment against US/UK meddling. Better to be a little more covert about these things. It is my personal wish that Mugabe would step aside and that ZANU-PF would purge itself of bureaucrats and become a progressive force again.

8. Well, in my opinion...
...I don't want the US to do anything in that regard. I do not think it would be appropriate for it to do so. But other, non-governmental forces can certainly provide political support for progressive forces inside Zimbabwe. This could be done through print and other media publicity, demonstrations, letter writing campaigns, etc. What I do not want is for "regime change" to be enforced by Western powers, either unilaterally or through the UN.

5.  UK caused cholera, says Zimbabwe
The cholera outbreak in Zimbabwe which has left hundreds dead was caused by the UK, an ally of Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe has said.

Information Minister Sikhanyiso Ndlovu described the outbreak as a "genocidal onslaught on the people of Zimbabwe by the British".
...
He described it as "a calculated, racist, terrorist attack on Zimbabwe".

Mr Mugabe has already accused Western powers of plotting to use cholera as an excuse to invade and overthrow him.

7. Mugabe reminds me of Chavez. They both blame the US for their ineptness.

9. No, there's a world of difference between them
Chavez does plenty of things right, and has been good, overall, to the average Venezuelan, even if he has a huge ego; Mugabe cares about himself, and no-one else, and has an obsession with power and a general disregard for other people.

11. Chavez is to Mugabe as Archimedes is to Forrest Gump
Hell, domestically speaking Bush is probably to Mugabe as Archimedes is to Gump.

The guy's been an unmitigated disaster; Zimbabwe's hyperinflation rate is hyperinflating these days.

10. Good news: Mugabe said the cholera epidemic is over.
He said so with a straight face. It was on the evening news.
