New York Daily NewsRep. Nydia Velazquez, who was once considered a top contender for Hillary Clinton's US Senate seat, announced via press release that she has informed Gov. David Paterson she is no longer interested in the job.
According to Velazquez, Paterson responded by asking him to join the committee that is advising him in the selection process. (I wasn't aware this entity existed in any formal sort of way - when it is meeting, does anyone know?)

Velazquez also would have address the concerns of Hispanics who feel they're getting the short end of the stick when it comes to high-level positions in the state.
However, almost as soon as Velazquez's name emerged, the whisper campaign began in an effort to tear her down, with detractors quietly reminding reporters about her suicide attempt and questioning her fundraising capability.
