Feds seek to freeze Blago campaign fund, sources say
Source: Chicago Sun-Times

Federal authorities plan to freeze Gov. Blagojevich’s campaign fund, crippling the governor’s ability to use the money for his legal bills.

In a letter this week, they put the Blagojevich camp on notice they intend to freeze the money, sources told the Chicago Sun-Times.

That disclosure comes a week after the governor was hit with federal charges including scheming to sell the U.S. Senate seat given up by President-elect Barack Obama.

Today in Springfield, the governor’s lawyer, Ed Genson, appeared before a House panel investigating whether to impeach Blagojevich. Genson asked to be appointed a special attorney general to represent the governor in the impeachment process.

The “Friends of Blagojevich” fund hasn’t been frozen yet, but sources said the letter alone will have a crippling effect on the governor’s ability to move money out of the fund because of the possibility that prosecutors would later seize the money.

5. Just because Blago was indicted does not mean he is guily and does not mean that he does not deserve
due process. Oh yeah, I forgot, we now live in GWB's America.

6. Blagojevich hasn't been indicted-
he was arrested on a complaint rather than an indictment.

With the ongoing investigation, at least four years old, the question arises why Blagojevich was arrested on a complaint rather than an indictment?

4. It's said that he already owes Winston & Strawn $2 million.
That's why they're his former law firm. They quit working for him.

Governor Wants State to Pay for His Defense
12/17/08 @ 8:03:18 pm

CHICAGO (AP) - Gov. Rod Blagojevich's lawyer wants the state to appoint attorneys to represent the governor and pay for them because Attorney General Lisa Madigan has a conflict of interest and can't do it.

Chicago attorney Ed Genson contends it's Madigan's job to represent the governor in his impeachment and criminal cases. But he says she can't do it because she filed a third legal proceeding against the governor asking the state Supreme Court to declare him unfit to serve. Genson disclosed the filings Wednesday. He is one of Blagojevich's three lawyers of choice. Genson also filed a motion asking the Illinois House considering an impeachment recommendation to appoint and pay for lawyers to represent the governor in that matter. Genson calls it a matter of "fundamental fairness."

Madigan's office says it will respond soon to Genson's request.
