Obama picks Vilsack, Salazar for Cabinet
Source: MSNBC.COM

CHICAGO - Pushing to fill his Cabinet, President-elect Barack Obama announced Wednesday his choices of former Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack to be agriculture secretary and Colorado Sen. Ken Salazar to lead the Interior Department.

"It is time for a new kind of leadership in Washington that's committed to using our lands in a responsible way to benefit all of our families," Obama said in a news conference, his third in as many days to announce Cabinet choices.

Vilsack is a Monsanto fanboy, and is a cheerleader for the unfettered promotion of GMO's despite evidence that shows that they have serious harmful effects that can be difficult to contain if they cause illness, infest the environment, or poison our food supply.

Is Obama ignorant of the facts concerning the influence of Monsanto in agribusiness today? If he is, we are in deep, deep trouble, as Vilsack is the WRONG coice, at the worst possible time in our history.

What is it with the Clintonesque pattern of appointing that equivalent of WalMart CEO thinking into out USDA again?

As a Small farmer, I think this signals a dismal one term for this so called "Change which is much of the Same we can count on."

Obama, what has happened to you? It's like now that he's elected, he can toss his support to big business at will, without worry.

1. The thing is he ran on change as you said and also did not take big money.

So he owes no favors to Monsanto or big agribusiness.

I am still in wait and see mode camp.

He may be playing a craftier game then we can see. Using the fox to go after other foxes ..rather then guard the hen house. Knowing that the fox knows where the other foxes are hiding and what they are up to.

These appointees have to implement his policy ...not their own. Or they will be fired.

When he appoints a republican as he has twice now .. he may just be using them for their influence with other pubs.

Obama has said he will work for us. He is a liberal ..lots here say he is not but just look at his record as a state senator. He is also a constitutional scholar.

Then again.. I may be dreaming. A part of me is very much like you.

But follow your excellent logic... if he is not the change prez he is going to have some explaining to do on all the promises that he breaks.

One more point .. I know where is campaign funds came from.... all of us.

good post for debate k&r

2. Mary Shapiro Obama's pick for SEC head
is on Rand Corporations board of ethics.

Is there another company in the World w/ less ethical guidelines than RAND?

Very, very dissapointed w/ this pick.

5. That is a misconception. While Obama had a huge donar base, some of it was big money.
Why can't Obama place a token leftie/liberal in his cabinet?

Why is he ideologically screening out anyone who would be acceptable to the progressives who backed him, first in the primaries and then in the general?

4. We have another DLC president.
The only alternative was NOT an alternative.

Well, hoodwinked or not, we DID have the
power to choose.

Now we've got to make sure we have the power
to pick our CHOICES.

6. We had the 'power' to choose between the chosen corporate candidates selected for us.
Some choice, there. :eyes:

Looks like he is giving the corporations a seat at the table so they can then finish eating what's left of the food.

To quote John Edwards, I think if you give them a seat at the table, they'll eat all the food
