WASILLA -- A 42-year-old Wasilla woman was arrested Thursday at her home by Alaska State Troopers with a search warrant in an undercover drug investigation. Sherry L. Johnston was charged with six felony counts of misconduct involving a controlled substance.

Johnston is the mother of Levi Johnston, the Wasilla 18-year-old who received international attention in September when Gov. Sarah Palin and her husband, Todd, announced their teenage daughter was pregnant and he was the father. Bristol Palin, 18, is due on Saturday, according to a recent interview with the governor's father, Chuck Heath.

Troopers served the warrant at Johnston's home at the "conclusion of an undercover narcotics investigation," said a statement issued Thursday by the troopers as part of the normal daily summary of activity around the state.

Troopers charged Johnston with second-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance -- generally manufacturing or delivering drugs -- as well as fourth-degree misconduct involving controlled substances, or possession.

Wasilla must be one partying town. I wonder if wingnuts will play guilt by association with this item.

131. She doesn't look like a meth user

3 months ago: Sherry Johnston, mother of Levi Johnston, talks about her son at her home in Wasilla, Alaska Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008. Levi is the boyfriend of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's unwed, pregnant daughter and he'lll join the family of the Republican vice presidential candidate at the party's convention in St. Paul, Minn.

138. She's not smiling or showing her teeth
One of the assistants who works with my dentist was telling me of experiences they have have doing reconstructive dental work on meth users. Meth users drink so much soda and carbonated beverages that they literally dissolve their tooth enamel, it gets to the point that the tooth enamel becomes like a grape skin, just the slightest pressure and the tooth splats like a squeezed grape!

Don't they also have lax pot laws in Alaska ?

Seems to me that this is more about crack than anything else.

So why do I have the feeling that this might just disappear kinda like
the Troopergate thing?

Not good for a lead in to 2012 is it ?

but from my years working in the legal biz here, I've noticed a lot of that sort of thing coming out of Wasilla, I'm not sure why. More from Wasilla than Palmer, its sister city out there in the Mat-Su Valley. That's just anecdotal, of course - I don't have statistics - but it was noticable to me long before Sarah Palin's rise.

Alcohol consumption rates reflect the prevalence and severity of alcohol related problems. The alcohol consumption rate in Alaska has been higher than the rate in the rest of the nation during each of the last 14 years, and is well above the Healthy Alaskans 2010 goal of 2.2 gallons or less per person per year.

38. Of pure ethanol that is contained in those drinks
For instance, from those figures, 1.19 gallons of beer per year is about 13 beers (330 ml each) per year. One beer every 4 weeks isn't a feasible average for the US. But if the beer is 5% alcohol, and it's the measure of pure ethanol, then it'd be an average of 5 beers a week - much more believable.

over the silence and clinking of silverware Todd, at the head of the table has to decide what to bring up first, Sherry getting busted or her son not having married his daughter yet

Todd has to do it because Sarah will just be glowing in the aura of her own AWESOMENESS

" the best of America is in these small towns that we get to visit, and in these wonderful little pockets of what I call the real America.”

and

“We grow good people in our small towns, with honesty, sincerity, and dignity.”

http://www.gothamgazette.com/article/issueoftheweek/20081020/200/2677

I guess abiding by the laws doesn't fit in with the honesty and wonderfulness of small towns.

And it's actually EIGHT YEARS OF METH USE... See some the links below for the true horror show:

This is a interesting link with several photos of different meth users:

with the future in laws involved with drugs she can now say that she doesn't want her daughter marrying into "that" kind of family and she can say it with a straight face too. Since the wedding was a sham anyways.

Sarah's but being the teen girl's. Just because she's supposedly pregnant now doesn't mean it wasn't hers to start with.

I mean, why else would they bother arresting her? She's just another speed freak Alaskan.

It's nearly a family tradition. Track had to join up to get his habit under control.

Just another day in the Palin household.

100. They like the drugs in AK
I lived there 20 years ago. Alaska back then was mainly working class, and everybody has good paying jobs. It's cold, and the winter is long. Drinking was hugely popular, and all sorts of drugs. Plus, there are fewer women, who tend to restrain most men's partying, and many of the women like to party just as much as the men. In other words, it's a party culture. I don't imagine anything has changed.

118. At first glance, this is sorta funny,
but then, I realized it reminds me of the alcoholics I used to work with back around college days. Whatever problem they had, it wasn't as bad as the next guy;

"I might have a few beers, but at least I don't drink that rotgut stuff"
"I stay away from the hard stuff - it'll kill you"
"I ain't no wino, I stick to beer"

Even the Sterno drinkers felt they were above the alcoholics.

Other than the medicinal uses, weed is just more self-deception.

You can have up to four ounces without criminal penalties.

So, if they charged Johnston with six felonies, she either had a trailer truck full of pot or something a little more potent.

http://www.themudflats.net/2008/12/19/levi-johnstons-mother-is-arrested/

<snip>

We last heard from Sherry Johnston, back when Levi joined the Palins on the campaign trail. At that time,

Sherry Johnston said she was worried about her son dealing with all the attention. She said it is difficult enough for teenagers to deal with any pregnancy; having the entire nation watching makes it worse.

Levi Johnston, a hockey player for Wasilla High School, is not listed on the team roster for 2008-09, and his mother wouldn’t say if he graduated. She said simply he’s no longer a student and any further information would have to come from him.

The intense media scrutiny has stunned this suburban community about 40 miles north of Anchorage, with reporters camping out near the Johnston home.

“This is out of my league,” Sherry Johnston said. “I’m just a country gal, and I want to keep it that way.”

Well, gee then, it probably would have been a good idea not to be cookin’ up drugs in your house. Just sayin’.

154. Update: Johnston's arrest was oxycontin-related
Edited on Fri Dec-19-08 10:06 PM by rainbow4321
http://www.adn.com/news/alaska/story/628916.html

Wasilla resident Sherry L. Johnston, mother of Bristol Palin's boyfriend, faces a Jan. 6 court date for an oxycontin-related arrest at her home by Alaska State Troopers.

Little additional information was available Friday on the case as authorities remained unusually tight-lipped about details. But Palmer court records listed her scheduled court date and a troopers spokeswoman said in a release late Friday afternoon that the charges "are in relation to the drug oxycontin."

Johnston's first court appearance will be an arraignment hearing -- when defendants are informed of their charges and usually enter a plea - is scheduled for Jan. 6, according to the Palmer court calendar.

(snip)

Kalytiak said the standard protocol for drug arrests is that law enforcement officials observe one drug buy, then get a warrant that permits them to record conversations and document more buys.

-------------
Remember this report?

http://www.nationalenquirer.com/celebrity/65407

The ENQUIRER has learned exclusively that Sarah's oldest son, Track, was addicted to the power drug OxyContin for nearly the past two years, snorting it, eating it, smoking it and even injecting it. And as Track, 19, heads to Iraq as part of the U.S. armed forces, Sarah and her husband Todd were powerless to stop his wild antics, detailed in the new issue of The ENQUIRER, which goes on sale today.
--------
And:

http://www.babble.com/CS/blogs/famecrawler/archive/2008/09/18/sarah-palin-s-daughter-caught-doing-drugs-on-tape.aspx

The Enquirer has done some digging and says that it came up with a video of Bristol Palin smoking pot on camera. It also had a source who like any true source would, spilled the beans regarding Levi's, cocaine buying, smoking Oxycontin off of aluminum foil, habits.

160. Hmmm..catch the part about cops could have "recorded conversations"??
Edited on Fri Dec-19-08 10:20 PM by rainbow4321
Oooohhh..this could go even worse for the Palin family depending on who Levi's mother may have talked with and what they talked about.

One recorded phone call to Levi involving open conversations/comments about drugs and he is toast. Maybe it is Palin's way of getting HIM shipped off to Iraq...jail or military (sound familiar?)?? That way, HE is out of the baby picture (shipped overseas) and IF his mom faces jail time, SHE is outta of the picture. Palin then gets to "keep" Bristol and baby all to herself. And all of the gifts that are pouring in:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=4687079&mesg_id=4687079

But Palin may have to tread carefully, I imagine the Johnston family know where all the Palin skeletons are buried and could easily put the National Enquirer or other media outlet on speed dial.
