DNA Tests Confirm Remains Are Caylee Anthony

ORLANDO, Fla. – Skeletal remains found in the woods are the Florida 3-year-old who has been missing since June, and her death is considered a homicide, a county medical examiner said Friday. DNA tests confirm that the remains match Caylee Anthony's genetic profile, said the medical examiner, Dr. Jan Garavaglia.

A utility worker stumbled upon the remains last week, less than a half-mile from where the girl lived. Garavaglia said some of the remains discovered were as small as pebbles, and authorities weren't certain how the girl was killed.

"Bottom line is folks, no child should have to go through this," said Orange County Sheriff Kevin Beary.
Caylee's mother, 22-year-old Casey Anthony, was indicted in October on first-degree murder and other charges, even though no body was found. She has insisted that she left the girl with a baby sitter in June, but she didn't report her missing until July.

A search team said they did not check the wooded area sooner because it was submerged in water.

1. That mother better start talking. This long draged out search was bad enough - and her fault.

cause of death... Yet, the circumstances suggest murder rather than natural causes. If it had been (by some unlikely possiblity) a natural death with panic afterwards, no one will ever believe her...

Poor thing... Even all these years, I still cringe to think of poor little Adam Walsh, whose death had to be among the most horrific.

6. Why Bother?
She's done nothing but lie from the very start of this ordeal! Her talking now would not make a difference, the prosecutor has already taken the death penalty off the table, and besides her parents support her 100%.

I would say that some kind of psych defense is how her lawyer will play it!

Maybe the lawyer will try to get the remains excluded as evidence, after all he did try to get the judge to stop the search.

3. There needs to be more support out there -
If a parent can not handle the responsibility of having a child, that child needs to be placed with those who can. This is not a solution but damn it, there are too many stories like this out there and it horrific, tragic and so sad. Giving birth to a child should never be taken lightly.

5. Very true. That's why I approved of the way the Nebraska law regarding
a safe haven for children was first written. I didn't think that parents dropping off older kids was a bad thing. It was sure as hell probably better for the kids. But NO, they changed it so that only infants are covered under the law.

8. I heard that on NPR -
and thought what a crappy thing to do, determine the age of the child to just cover infants. I have two kids myself and I have to say, the easiest part was caring for them when they were babies. My youngest is almost 4, and she can be a handful at times - largely because the ability to reason isn't fully there. That can be frustrating and challenging. For a unwilling or unable parent, those moments could tip them over.

7. Adoption refused
I read that someone wanted to adopt the little girl when her mother was pregnant with her but the grandmother would not permit it because she felt that having a child would "mature" Casey. That almost makes her an accessory.

A baby shouldn't be used as punishment for the mother or the baby gets punished. You simply can't force someone to shape up and be a parent. I think the parents of teens that get pregnant may need as much assistance with the situation as the pregnant daughter. Having a baby doesn't force the mother or father into "good" behavior, these damn controlling grandparents out there need to know this.

27. Less than two percent of women in that situation choose adoption
During my years of teaching high school I had numerous girls who found themselves pregnant with little support system. I am dismayed to say that none of them even considered giving the child up for adoption. They all thought that the child would bring them a love they lacked.

9. Support can only work if...
The support only works if the parent is willing to admit to their faults, and allow an agency to take custody of the child.

And having a CPS that has the proper resources to do its job would be great!

12. My daughter is an art therapist
and her thesis was on foster care (which is ALSO no panacea) you should hear the abuse stories. Biological parent abuse, and foster abuse too. It made my blood curdle. Somebody needs to help agencies that try to give kids temporary and permanent homes. These kids are screwed up at tender ages with all kinds of traumas.

And they are the ones who survive!

15. Casey's parents
Offered to adopt Caylee but she used the baby as a tool against her parents. She was probably jealous of the attention the baby was getting, and all Casey would get is nagging. This bitch needs to get the needle. And her parents should be held accountable for lying to the FBI.

Dollars to donuts the mom did it. Why the fuck didn't she just give her up for adoption if she didn't want her? Appalling.

I mean look at that sweet little face?!

RIP little girl.

14. I've seen that the mother tried to set up an adoption but the grandparents blocked it
If that's the case how is it possible for someone to block an adult from putting their own child up for adoption?

I guess a non-spouse father could technically challenge an attempt of the mother to put the child up for adoption but how does a parent block their grown daughter from doing so?

16. I thought Cindy talked her
Out of it. Hell in Virgina in the 90's a judge took a biological child away from it's mother and gave it to the grandmother because she was a lesbian. The grandmother took it to court and won the custody.

20. You may be correct.....
I haven't followed the case that carefully and it's mostly through DU that I've seen stories on it. I thought one thread had a reference to the grandmother blocking the adoption but it may have just been persuasion.

29. See post 28...
When I did try to research it, all that's available is the claim that the cdeceased man was the father. They could exhume and test DNA. The only purpose it would serve is to confirm her father didn't murder her.

but I believe that you are mistaken. While I've heard claims that the father is dead, I've never heard anything about the father being given custody. Casey apparently did tell her mother that the father of the child is dead, but that is as far as it goes.

13. Every time I look at Caylee's photo,
and consider what a beautiful girl she was, I just want to cry. What kind of monster would do this to her. And when you consider how many people would have loved nothing more than to give her a home if she had been unwanted.

21. Casey Anthony & OJ Simpson
are very similar IHO. They exude a superior confidence when they lie through their teeth. Sure hope she doesn't get off.

I wonder why the little girl seems to have scratches on her neck and arm in this photo.

Poor little thing - Just want to say that I detected a musical gift when I heard her singing on a tape on tv. She stayed on key which is not usual for a 2 year old.

RIP little one.

if she is even able to tell the truth, so far she has not been very convincing. She is only making it harder on herself, every lie she tells the madder people get about this whole situation. She doesn't stand a chance at a trial.
