'Magic Negro' flap might help Saltsman
By ANDY BARR | 12/30/08 4:31 AM EST

The controversy surrounding a comedy CD distributed by Republican National Committee chair candidate Chip Saltsman has not torpedoed his bid and might have inadvertently helped it.

Four days after news broke that the former Tennessee GOP chairman had sent a CD that included a song titled “Barack the Magic Negro” to the RNC members he is courting, some of those officials are rallying around the embattled Saltsman, with a few questioning whether the national media and his opponents are piling on.

“When I heard about the story I had to figure out what was going on for myself,” said Mark Ellis, the chairman of the Maine Republican Party. “When I found out what this was about I had to ask, ‘boy, what’s the big deal here?’ because there wasn’t any.”

Alabama Republican committeeman Paul Reynolds said the fact the Saltsman sent him a CD with the song on it “didn’t bother me one bit.”

21. I'd say that just about says it all.
"I got the CD and I didn't see a problem with it ..."

The Pukes just don't get it. And until they DO, they're toast.

29. Yes it does, it shows how out of touch they are
Since Palin came on the national scene, that seems to be the "cool" GOP group to be in, as far right as you can go is what they think their "base" is.

6. How about the left release a CD of Bush the Warmongering Criminal?
using the Puff, the Magic Dragon melody.

If I knew how and had the resources, I would. Would also have versions for Cheney, Rice, Mccain, Palin, hell the entire lot of these misfits.

How do you think they'd like that shit?!

The RNC would best be sent to blackholedom. Should be black enough for them I think.

7. "'What's the big deal here?' because there wasn't any," said the ignorant racist.
That's what so comical about this...they simply think the song is funny. Ha ha. A laugh riot. What's the problem?

And gosh, imagine that, ALABAMA GOP chairman says the racist parody didn't bother him one bit. Was there ever a question?

18. And I was thinking
from Maine to Alabama the rethugs appeal to racists seems anything but regional. If there is a bigot in your neighborhood, they're a registered rethug. It's practically a given.

8. The GOP doesn't even understand why they are losing.
Its really funny. Until they understand it, they won't be able to correct it. It sound like they'll be the minority party for years. Hope our leaders are ready to act.

The GOP wouldn't be able to hide its racists in its ranks. I say put them out there, front and center, in the light of day. That way people will know the truth about the republicans.

10. That would be good news for us, The more bigoted and culturally insensitive
the Republicans act, the less votes they get. Funny how they have been too stupid or stubborn to realize this.

11. Good luck....
Just continue pandering to "your base", or should we call it the ever diminishing base. The GOp has been relegated to a Southern minority party for the foreseeable future, perhaps forever. What freaking morons...

12. ... a "comedy CD ..."? I don't think so.
I'm sure that it will be a hit at New Year's Eve parties thrown by Rush Limbaugh, James Dobson, Phyllis Schafly, O'Reilly, and far too many more to mention here.

But to parody "A rose, is a rose, is a ..." A bigot is a bigot is a bigot.

Will we ever see a day when this ignorance, intolerance and sheer insanity comes to an end?

I guess Oscar Hammerstein said it all in a song about racism from "South Pacific."

"You've got to be taught to hate and fear,
You've got to be taught from year to year,
It's got to be drummed into your dear little ear,
You've got to be carefully taught.

You got to be taught before it's too late,
Before you are six or seven or eight,
To Hate all the people your relatives hate,
You've got to be carefully taught."

Unfortunately, there are more people who have been taught to hate, than to read, write, spell, or add. And if you doubt me, check out our educational rating compared to the rest of the countries of the world. (Hint: We're not NUMBER ONE.)

13. gop 2008.....part of pigs and bigots. Sweet oinkers!
It really does say it all. They DON'T see anything wrong in it. They think this is "good humor"...the stuff you blurt out at parties (preferably when everyone is in their white robes).

These pigs are sorry members of our society...the last of the dying bigots. We'll always have them in this country...racist, Bible-clinging bigots....but the old ugly ones are dying out and who knows, some day, maybe, it will not be such a "macho" thing in this country - the South especially, to hate and perpetuate this "I'm greater than you" bull shit they cling to since the days of slavery.

19. And for those few remaining Republicans who are not...
racists, bigots, xenophobes, jingoists, or science-denying know-nothings and who no longer wish to be manipulated by a GOP looting class, we gladly welcome them into the expanding Democratic, big-tent coalition.

Now the Blue Coalition's clear and present danger will be the co-opting of its leadership by that same GOP looting class, which may simply shift its funding and influence-buying from the failed, shrinking party to the newly ascendant one. There are already ample signs of such a transfer of political wealth. (Remember the vote for telecom immunity and also the vote for the virtually strings-free giveaway of $700 billion to the very Ponzi schemers who caused the economy to collapse? Will anyone now track the political contributions from the telecoms and the bailed out finance industry into Democratic Party coffers?)

22. Rethugs like this, and Palin equal the gifts that keep on giving

Their kind of stupidity needs to be exposed for what it is - racism.

America is so much better than this and the true "Republican" Party must be better than this if they want to prosper in the 21st Century.
