Colin Powell Endorses Obama Service Initiative
Source: CNN

Former Secretary of State Colin Powell is lending his stature to an initiative from the incoming administration to connect volunteers with causes that need them.

"We have an economic problem," Powell told a Washington news conference Friday. "People are losing their jobs. Let's come forward to serve our fellow citizens and to serve our nation."

President-elect Barack Obama's "Renew America Together" initiative will officially launch a Web site on Martin Luther King Day, January 19, to help people answer the call. Obama's inauguration is the following day.

The Web site, www.USAservice.org, will allow people to offer their time or resources and be contacted by people in the community who need that type of help. Powell said the site will follow the model of craigslist.org, a worldwide virtual bulletin board where users can post free classified ads.

1. I hope something gets cooking..
along those lines. If I could contribute anything other than money I don't have, I would be happy to do it.

3. I never thought I would say this..
but I miss the run-up to the election. Even though I cringed every time I made a phone call.. I was actually feeling good about my fellow citizens. Looking back it was so much more positive than the constant negativity of now.

6. Powell lost his stature long ago and so he has none to lend. He'll be
lucky if he escapes war crimes after his UN speech.

7. He should be ashamed. I don't know how he can show his face in public.
