Grenade explodes in Cambodia as voters head to polls

A grenade exploded outside the headquarters of the royalist Funcinpec party during parliamentary elections Sunday, officials said.

No one was hurt.

Two other grenades were discovered outside the Royal Palace in Phnom Penh and were safely removed, Phnom Penh Deputy Police Commissioner Heng Pov said.

The explosion happened a few hours after Cambodians began voting in elections to choose a new National Assembly.

It sent people running for cover and left burn marks on a sidewalk.

The grenade's pin had been removed and its detonator was held in place by a rubber band.

It was placed in a can full of kerosene and left at the sidewalk near a trash barrel, said Muong Khim, also a deputy police commissioner in Phnom Penh.
