FBI saw mortgage fraud early
Source: Seattle Post

The FBI was aware for years of "pervasive and growing" fraud in the mortgage industry that eventually contributed to America's financial meltdown, but did not take definitive action to stop it.

"It is clear that we had good intelligence on the mortgage-fraud schemes, the corrupt attorneys, the corrupt appraisers, the insider schemes," said a recently retired, high FBI official. Another retired top FBI official confirmed that such intelligence went back to 2002.

"We knew that the mortgage-brokerage industry was corrupt," the first of the retired FBI officials told the Seattle P-I. "Where we would have gotten a sense of what was really going on was the point where the mortgage was sold knowing that it was a piece of dung and it would be turned into a security. But the agents with the expertise had been diverted to counterterrorism."

. . .

Both retired FBI officials asserted that the Bush administration was thoroughly briefed on the mortgage fraud crisis and its potential to cascade out of control with devastating financial consequences, but made the decision not to give back to the FBI the agents it needed to address the problem. After the terrorist attacks of 2001, about 2,400 agents were reassigned to counterterrorism duties.

5. That was my first thought also.
Keeping their jobs is more important I guess.

The FBI site has public corruption as number four on its priority investigation list where it used to be number one. It still is the number one on their prosecution list which means numbers one through three on the corruption list result in very few if any prosecutions.

13. Going after the mortgage industry wouldn't have helped his ratings
and it might have slowed his economic numbers. For a WH cabal that kept insisting they didn't pay attention to polls they did everything in their power to inflate their numbers in those polls.

6. google "Bush family eugenics"...
...and you'll see just how the family has been enamored with the idea of "depopulation" of lesser peoples. George the Elder was so gung ho about population control and eugenics that his fellow U.S. Congressmen nicknamed him "Rubbers" -- which he hated. Their world view springs from the old New England elitists' romance with Malthusian and Hegelian theories. The resources of the world are finite. A little upheaval now and then that eliminates some of the population is not bad. In chaos lies opportunity for power and profit.

That's the way they think.

7. The FBI is lame---they ignored pre 911 threats, then the financial crisis..
But they sure know how to go after high school kids with 'threatening' web sites.

The FBI is a joke. They only know how to intimidate American citizens in small towns.

8. Proud to have kicked this expose to the greatest page showing how junior kept America
"safe" from terra while ignoring issues that would cost Americans tens of trillions of dollars in loss from the housing market, their 401(k)s, the banking industry, the stock markets, and capital markets. Even a fool should realize that to be safe, the nation needs to be safe and strong in its overall economy, public health, fiscal health, et al. :P

10. The government in control enabled them to do it by first cutting regulations
and then weakening the one law enforement agency that could have possibly stopped it in it's tracks. Lay the blame where it belongs, not on the FBI so much as the governmental partners in crime.

14. "the Bush administration was thoroughly briefed on the mortgage fraud crisis"
More proof that Bu*h and the republicans deliberately destroyed our economy.

Is it treason yet? Or should we call it "financial terrorism"?

Well, we know where they live.
