Russia's S7 cancels Boeing order
Source: BBC news

Russian airline S7 has cancelled an order worth $2.4bn (£1.7bn) for 15 Boeing-787 Dreamliner aircraft.

It is the first airline to cancel a major contract for the 787.

The news will come as a blow to Boeing. The launch of its new jetliner has been delayed by a strike by machinists and production problems.

S7 did not give a reason for the cancellation but said it "retains interest in using the Dreamliner" and will look to lease the planes instead.

1. Boeing is no longer the force

A lot of countries won't buy US made products because of Dubya and his anti-world hostilities.

Hopefully this will change under Obama.

2. Also a blow for my company.
Not good for me... my company has a contract with Boeing for 787 components. I'm sure this is going to affect many companies outside of Boeing.

On the "plus" side, we had a recent round of layoffs that were a bit deeper than initially planned, just in case there was more bad news like this. So hopefully we'll keep on hunkering down and not have to do any more layoffs, or a temporary factory shutdown.

4. Ouch...that might leave a mark
In our community Boeing is the biggest client of our largest employer. I guess time will tell. So far they haven't laid many off...I hope this doesn't affect them.

I'm not sure how much impact 2.4 billion is in the scheme of things, but I suspect it will have impact.

5. The way they always blame the machinists galls me
"Production problems"? That's one way of putting it. Another way would be "787 clusterfuck."
