2 troops killed in NW Pakistan, endangering truce

ISLAMABAD - An attack on an army convoy by suspected Taliban militants killed two soldiers and wounded a third Tuesday in the restive Swat Valley, violating a cease-fire there as the government and insurgents pursue peace talks.

It was at least the second violation by militants since an indefinite truce was declared in late February in the northwestern valley, a former tourist haven where militants have gained tremendous sway despite a military offensive.

A Taliban spokesman took responsibility for the attack.

A hardline Islamist cleric, Sufi Muhammad, has been mediating talks between militants and the government. The government already has agreed to impose an Islamic justice system in Swat and surrounding areas to convince the insurgents to stop fighting.

1. Pakistan is a failed nuclear state.
No one is really 'in control' there. It is a dangerous mess.

3. They'd probably be a 'failed state' regardless. But the nuclear
part is the fault of the US.

will the Taliban find them in breech of contract,ending the cease fire...

seems the Taliban haven't put away their weapons as agreed to so looks like the point is moot. More foreign interests will be targetted around all of Pakistan.
