US soldier killed when base shelled in Iraq
Source: AP

BAGHDAD (AP) — The U.S. military says an American soldier has been killed in the shelling of a U.S.-Iraqi base in the northern city of Mosul.

Iraqi police say the joint base was hit by mortar rounds Tuesday.

Nobody has claimed responsibility for the attack. But it underscores the resilience of al-Qaida in Iraq and other groups after repeated attempts to break their hold in Mosul.

The U.S. military says rounds hit the base and that one American soldier has died of wounds.

2. Leftchick – yes, home grown resistance.
The Iraqi resistance, unlike the resistance efforts of France & Norway, does appear to be strictly homegrown. I have flanked them closer to the Danish resistance.

France surrendered and the Vichy government remained in partial control of southern France. Norway surrendered and they got the Quisling government.

Denmark capitulated before being invaded, their entire military stood down. Their resistance would be built upon the common people: shopkeepers, shoemakers, house wives, school kids, left over military personal that escaped and prostitutes. The allies provided very little support to the Danes because they were so disorganized, and in the beginning didn’t represent a definable political group. When the political lines became more clear the allies would only support the non-communist groups they were in contact with.

Obviously this current situation is not a clear cookie cutter approach for comparison, but none-the-less I see them as a populist resistance. The American MSM has tried to sell a “foreign” support into the political mix with their tales and photos don’t appear to have done well.

Sabra, thanks for posting this one! It doesn’t appear to be getting much in way of the MSM. I didn’t see it until checking in here.
