Jon Stewart tears CNBC a new one for cancelling Santelli appearence
Edited on Thu Mar-05-09 03:45 PM by RedEarth
Source: CollegeNews

Like John McCain before him, CNBC’s financial analyst Rick Santelli has learned the hard way that it’s best not to bail on a late night comedian.

CNBC’s Santelli, famous for a rant against President Barack Obama’s plan to save America’s mortgages, was scheduled to be a guest on “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart,” presumably to discuss the particulars of the rant.

However, at the last minute, CNBC canceled Santelli’s appearance, with a network spokesperson telling the New York Times that it was “time to move on to the next big story.”

Needless to say, Stewart was not happy about the snub.

In the time that was originally allotted for Rick Santelli, Jon Stewart took the time to rip CNBC a new one for failing to accurately report the coming financial crisis. Stewart’s scathing segment concluded with the late night comedian remarking “If I’d only listen to CNBC, I’d have a million dollars! Provided I started with a hundred million dollars.”

Watch the segment in full here:

about cancelling on our comedians/political savvy dudes!

Much better story than santelli actually showing up with his whining lies.

5. I just saw the clip and
that was some of the best Jon Stewart ever.

Especially the ending when he had the cnbc guy asking standford.. was it good to be a Billionaire and he said "yes yes".

Jon's reaction "Fu$h you!". That whole clip was geniusly put together.

So glad santelli bailed out on Jon..I hadn't even seen that infamous rant of santelli's on the floor.

4. Santielli's rant was staged; an obvious piece of corporate media propaganda.
"Recently, a lot of newspapers have been speculating as to whether or not Santelli’s rant was genuine or staged."

The acting was out of place and absurdly pathetic, only to be exceeded by the even more absurdly pathetic swamp of coverage.

In retrospect, santelli might have laid it to rest last night but by "bailing out"..he only made it worse for him and that lame cnbc he works for.

10. I like Jon, I like Colbert and I think they're very funny, politically astute
and sad to say it closer to reporting the truth than the vast majority of the corporate media.

Having said that, I would advise for anyone not to make the mistake of forgetting who cuts their paychecks, they can only push the envelop so far, lest they get Smothered Brothered.

I can imagine that cnbc is seething right now but they only have themselves to blame. Too bad they don't learn from it and try and be more reponsible:rofl:

15. MSM is saying Stewart did this in retaliation. Jon just being spiteful for being stood up
Edited on Thu Mar-05-09 03:59 PM by Robbien
Yeah right. Santelli canceled at the last minute.

That eight minute montage took a lot longer than "a last minute" to put together and produce. You just know Jon had it at the ready to hit Santelli with. Santelli not showing up had nothing to do with the piece being aired.

But MSM must try to save their collective face and try and label Jon as spiteful.

It's really sad when idiots like the ones John showed last night making fools of themselves by saying "buy, buy, buy" one day, and that things look good, then come back in a week or so and say just he opposite! A lot of people watch these idiots and follow their advice, and as you said, they should be taken off the air! I watched Mad Money on time, that's all it took for me to see the guy was crazy as a loon, and only putting on a show instead of giving good advice!

First, they should shut up. Or, say something good. The President is going to carry out the will of the majority of us idiots out here, and the stimulus is a done deal. It's going to take time, so it would be good business to try and profit from it's passing and subsequent actions the money will provide.

Is Obama responsible for Wall Street's Meltdown?

http://www.salon.com/opinion/feature/2009/03/05/populist_rage/

The Media and Wall Street Propagandists are on rant, “Obama Did It”. Memo; Change from “Clinton Did It” and Insert Obama. Wall Street has tens of thousands of investors telling them exactly what they think after loosing hundreds of millions of dollars. So instead of fessing up to being just out and out thief’s, they have a person to blame, no accounts, no accountability.

Memo to all Republicans and Conservatives and anyone in the Media, Change from “Clinton Did It“ to

36. This Post is Miss-titled
First off, this episode was amazing. I saw it last night and was awestricken. Anyone who's watched the Daily show knows that Stewart has always had a soft spot for the everyday lower/middle working classes so to have a delusional money glutton like Santelli shamelessly rest all the blame on everyday Americans while neglecting to mention the banks, wallstreet, the Bush administration, the Clinton administration, and deregulation, you have to assume he was going to bring the issues up regardless. THAT'S PROBABLY WHY SANTELLI/CNBC CANCELED- but it backfired. To put it simply; Santelli would rather self-righteously lecture those who were trying to pursue to american dream than lecture those who already attained it but just wanted more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more more and more ...

Sometimes modern society gets me a little bit down. Then I remember that there's a room-full of Aristophanes, Voltaires, and Tom Lehrers busy slicing and dicing the day's news so that they can make fun of it the following night.

That, at least, is pretty cool.

66. Bless you Jon Stewart! You may have lengthened my life!
I'm fairly new to the blog, so I don't have lot of posts. A lot of them, unfortunately, are about that very Financial "News" Channel, CNBC. I hate them. I'm surrounded by Republicans at work and this Channel is the Cheerleader for the GOP and Wall Street.

I've been wanting to see more direct shots at this Channel, and Wall Street in particular. Most of the more Left leaning shows don't really get into the economy much, and rightly so. We're concerned people are getting healthcare and their human rights are looked after, not that they are mainting their Wealth. Which is why the Right has the firm implanting into the Economy, Wall Street, and CNBC.

However, their rhetoric is hurting all the things the Left holds dear as well. I'd love to have more knowledgeable folks than me take their shots at Wall Street so that Main Street, though as a whole being ourtraged, truly understand the scope of how these people, and these 'news' stations are undermining your beliefs in response to the possible loss of their wealth. They do it all day. It's like a GOP public service announcement.

You made me feel so much better Jon. We need more of it!

70. And right now they are back at it.
CNBC still on the "Is Obama to Blame for the Economy" story. Didn't they say they were going to move on to the next story regarding Santelli? Why not move on to the next story, when the friggin' polls show that people don't blame him and actually say they need to give him some time! MOVE ON CNBC you piece of shit waste of space. You are driving down your own parent company's stock (GE). I'd spin those bastards off if I were GE.
