First lady spends lunch serving meals to homeless

Michelle_lunch First lady Michelle Obama has spent part of her day at the Miriam's Kitchen community center in Washington, the Associated Press reports, serving food to homeless men and women.

On the menu:

-- Mushroom risotto.
-- Fruit salad made with donations from White House staff.


Update at 3:15 p.m. ET. Paul West of the Baltimore Sun was the "print reporter" in today's "pool" of journalists who are following the first lady's day. He filed this report:

Michele Obama highlighted the role that soup kitchens play in tough economic times with a visit to Miriam's Kitchen, seven blocks from the White House complex.

In brief remarks after serving lunch to about 50 homeless men and women, Mrs. Obama made a pitch for others to follow her example and contribute to similar efforts around the country.

This does show that our nation at least cares about the homeless.

There are no homeless then.

There would still be the homeless, but the Repigs wouldn't give a shit. Good for Michelle. She makes me proud.

She is amazing asd so is her staff.

The first couple know where to look for role models in a depressing crisis.

She has already done way more in the community here than Laura Bush ever did. She is a good role model for everyone. There are many needy people and we need to step up and give of our money or time to help them.
