U.S. Soldier Killed in Grenade Attack in Baquba, Iraq, AFP Says
July 28 (Bloomberg) --

A U.S. soldier was killed when a rocket-propelled grenade was fired at a tank guarding a hospital in Baquba, 60 kilometers (40 miles) northeast of Baghdad, Agence France-Presse cited unidentified witnesses as saying.

The incident happened at about 11 p.m. last night in a town regarded by the U.S. military as home to many loyalists of the ousted regime, AFP said. Three U.S. soldiers were killed by a grenade there as they guarded a children's hospital on Saturday, the news agency said.

There was no information immediately available on the incident from the U.S. military. The death would bring to 11 the number of U.S. soldiers killed by suspected Iraqi fighters since Saddam Hussein's sons were killed on July 22.

Iraqis kill five more US
soldiers

Iraqi guerrillas killed a US soldier in a grenade
attack south of Baghdad early yesterday morning,
bringing the American death toll in 24 hours to
five. The deaths came as the hunt for Saddam
Hussein intensified in the Tikrit area and in the
capital.

US special forces hunting him last night carried
out a bloody raid on the Baghdad house of one of
Iraq's most powerful tribal leaders, Rabiah
Muhammed, but failed to find the former
president.

An American soldier at a nearby hospital said five
bodies and at least eight wounded had been
brought in from the scene of the raid in the
wealthy al-Mansour district of the cap ital. An Iraqi
policeman said all the dead had been in cars fired
on by troops as they drove through the area. A
boy in his early teens was among the dead.

"Today has been off the wall," a US soldier
guarding the emergency ward of Yarmuk hospital
told Reuters news agency.

14. I'm confused now too
There are so many announcements with different numbers, that I don't know whether the new ones should be included in the old ones or added to them. Is there a site on the net that keeps track of numbers and incidents?

15. It takes a couple of days, but eventually they end up on this
chronological list of the US war dead. It details where and how they died and includes soldiers who die later from their injuries. So sad.

17. Who was it, Peter(?) Bergman who said
we're being targeted by al-Quaeda. It's not all Saddam loyalists,
but Bergman contended Iraq had become a magnet for al-Quaeda
since Iraq now has 150,000 of al-Quaeda's favorite targets.

Until we know WHO we're fighting, we're sunk.

Iraqis would greet us with flowers once we invaded or when the government was deposed or when we controlled the country or when Saddam's sons were dead or when Saddam was dead or when pigs fly or when...ad nauseam.

11. Coincidence??
Does anyone on this thread think that there is potential propaganda in the news releases? I am alluding to the '3 soldiers killed guarding a children's hospital' section. I am just cynical enough to resist buying all of that.:hippie:
