Bush Decides to Write a Book on Decisions
Source: WSJ AP

NEW YORK -- Former President George W. Bush, who once called himself "The Decider," is writing a book about decisions.

"I want people to understand the environment in which I was making decisions. I want people to get a sense of how decisions were made and I want people to understand the options that were placed before me," Mr. Bush said during a brief telephone interview Wednesday with The Associated Press from his office in Dallas.

Mr. Bush's book, tentatively called "Decision Points," is scheduled for a 2010 release by Crown, an imprint of Crown Publishing Group. It is unusual in a couple of ways.

Instead of telling his life story, Bush will concentrate on about a dozen personal and presidential choices, from giving up drinking to picking Dick Cheney as his vice president to sending troops to Iraq. He will also write about his relationship with family members, including his father, the first President Bush, his religious faith and his highly criticized response to Hurricane Katrina.

Lots of other books will be exploring those decisions as well.

History will not be kind to you.

Unnecessary wars, torture, repression and the trashing of the constitution, and economic collapse will be the bush legacy.

He should have known that there were at least at the time 2 planes were hijacked. But no he went on with the photo op. What a trooper. And then he lies and says he "saw" the first plane hit without even thinking about hijacked planes and thinking it was some "terrible pilot". Yes keeping us safe.

16. George W Bush refuses to criticise Barack Obama in first public speech
Might as well post this here

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northamerica/usa/barackobama/5013747/George-W-Bush-refuses-to-criticise-Barack-Obama-in-first-public-speech.html

As the new administration comes under increasing fire for allowing AIG to pay $165 million in bonuses despite receiving a $170 billion government bailout, Mr Bush, who was making his first public speech since leaving office in January, said Mr Obama had enough critics and "deserves my silence".

His attitude provided a sharp contrast with Dick Cheney, the former vice-president, who said that Mr Obama's ban on torture threatened America's safety, and talk-show host Rush Limbaugh, who said he hoped Mr Obama would fail.

"I love my country a lot more than I love politics," Mr Bush said in Calgary, Canada. "I think it is essential that he be helped in office."

He revealed that he will write a book that will ask people to consider what they would do if they had to protect the United States as president. "It's going to be (about) the 12 toughest decisions I had to make," he said.

an excerpt:

"So I had to make a difficult choice. But I sucked it up and chose the dark blue socks. But now, an even more important obstacle loomed in front of me: the tie! Red striped or solid "power" yellow? What if I sent the wrong message? The fate of the country hung in my closet!Laura tried to help me, but the decision, I knew, would have to be mine. I coulda used a drink.... but turned to Jesus instead.(After all, it wasn't noon yet.)"

Because , if I remember correctly, he asked Cheney to find a suitable candidate, and Cheney chose...himself!

So the book is gonna be about other people's decisions, and whether Bush said "yes" or "no".

"How do make n's again? Is the stick part on the left or the right? Should be on the right. That's the Republican side. Heh, heh, heh."

Seriously, how many ghost writers do you think he'll go through before they can complete this project? Suicides, nervous breakdowns, resignations due to fits of conscience could tear through a lot of sensitive writer types. Oh, I know, get Ann Coulter. She's demonstrated an incredible tolerance for bullshit.

26. A Book Full Of Excuses, No Thanks
So Bush will write a book that will have an excuse for all of his bone-headed mistakes. One wonders what he will come up with on Katrina. And how will he explain this reasoning for not allowing dissent into his formulation of policy. He should think twice about writing this book, otherwise he will look as dumb as he was when he made all of those horrible decisions, sexed up or not. And how much do you want to bet that the assessment of the UN weapons inspection teams about Iraq not having any WMD never made it to his desk or into his considerations on invading Iraq. That alone will make Bush appear as the laughing stock that he was.

Decision Points : A Memoir by George W. Bush

It was dangerous. Dangerously dangerous . So dangerous they left it to me....George Danger Bush, the Decider Guy to make the decisions. Sure it was dangerous but that's what they pay me for...to live dangerously and to confront dangerous dangers with a smirk and wink. That's what us decider guys do....when confronted with danger.

61. I'm really curious about Katrina.
I mean the facts are out there -- he was given a briefing right before the hurricane struck. And then he did not ask for any updates afterward. In fact, his staff had to make him a DVD of the "news" in order for him to come up-to-speed days later. It's a fact that he was fund-raising in CA and AZ during and after Katrina. So I am curious to know why he obviously cared NOT ONE IOTA about the effects of that hurricane.

He can't alter the facts (though he can certainly try). He can't magically put himself back into these stories. He can't suddenly say that he jumped up out of his chair when Andrew Card whispered in his ear, and he can't say he was any part of the process during/after Katrina.

The only people who will believe his book are the ones who don't remember the facts as they actually happened. And it wouldn't surprise me if Shrub was one of those people who doesn't remember.

63. I'd like to know why he could not even be bothered to turn on CNN while he was in SD
Edited on Thu Mar-19-09 03:14 PM by Stephanie
He stayed at the Hotel del Coronado on the beach in SD - supposedly there was a GOP fundraiser there that night. Allegedly, he played golf. But could he not once have turned on the TV, while he was changing into his tux perhaps, like a normal human being? Just flip the switch, see what's going on in the world? The rest of us were glued to CNN, hoping and praying that the roof wouldn't blow off the Superdome, that the residents would be rescued, that the levees would hold. Bush? Had no clue until they showed him the DVD you described. WTF??? It's unfathomable.

Some photos of Bush that week >

75. Fact is this - he will say he expected his staff to update him if it was bad - now, a REAL caring
president would have told his staff to keep him thoroughly updated while he fund-raised for McStain and ate birthday cake - oh wait, a real president wouldn't have ignored the tragedy by running off to a country club...
