China tests J&J baby shampoo for unsafe chemicals (Johnson & Johnson)
Source: Associated Press

SHANGHAI (AP) — Shanghai's food and drug safety agency says it is testing Johnson & Johnson baby products following allegations they contain potential carcinogens.

An official at the Shanghai Food & Drug Safety Administration confirmed the agency was conducting tests but said he could not comment further because no results were available yet. Like many Chinese officials, he refused to give his name.

Johnson & Johnson baby shampoo and other products were among dozens from different manufacturers listed in a report issued March 12 by the U.S.-based health and environmental activist group Campaign for Safe Cosmetics as containing formaldehyde or 1,4-dioxane.

Johnson & Johnson issued a statement reassuring customers and accusing the report of unnecessarily alarming parents.

Sounds like a retaliatory stance to all the stuff we've claimed (and proved) was harmful to consumers.

2. I've heard for years that the baby shampoo has formaldehyde in it, but had never been able to
confirm it.

5. more info. here re: toxic shampoos, etc.
Edited on Thu Mar-19-09 01:55 PM by CountAllVotes
Researchers at the National Institutes of Health have found a correlation between an ingredient found in shampoos and nervous system damage. The experiments were conducted with the brain cells of rats and they show that contact with this ingredient called methylisothiazoline, or MIT, causes neurological damage.

Which products contain this chemical compound MIT? Head and Shoulders, Suave, Clairol and Pantene Hair Conditioner all contain this ingredient. Researchers are concerned that exposure to this chemical by pregnant women could put their fetus at risk for abnormal brain development. In other people, exposure could also be a factor in the development of Alzheimer's disease and other nervous system disorders.

The chemical causes these effects by preventing communication between neurons. Essentially, it slows the networking of neurons, and since the nervous system and brain function on a system of neural networks, the slowing of this network will suppress and impair the normal function of the brain and nervous system.

:kick: & recommend!!

on edit: After finding this I went through my shampoo, etc. and found that most of it has methylisothiazoline in them. I have since thrown these out and have something different now. What a damn hell it is trying to simply live in the world today - everything is broken!
