From Associated Press
March 25, 2009 1:51 PM EDT
TRENTON, N.J. - A report being prepared by Gov. Jon Corzine's panel on immigrant policy is expected to tackle the problem of unpaid wages. It's an issue that's gaining interest in Washington.

New Jersey's Labor Department saw a nearly 29 percent increase in wage complaints in 2008 compared to the previous year.

Congress is reviewing federal enforcement of such complaints on the heels of a report released Wednesday that faults the U.S. Labor Department for doing little for the nation's most vulnerable workers.

2. My friend in Houston tells me
illegal immigrants are hired and on Friday morning (just before pay is handed out) the boss calls in the INS who swoop down and roll up the illegals making paying them no longer necessary.

4. That's so wrong.
It's one thing to not hire them at all for whatever reason, or to pay them less than fair wages, but to steal their labor? That's um..what's the word for that? SLAVERY?

5. My daughter is a teacher assistant and gets shorted
She works at a Montessori school in wealthy Chevy Chase, MD, for crying out loud. Their tuition is astronomical, yet they have been shorting her paychecks lately. Unfortunately she doesn't have a contract and needs the job.
