Threats to AIG: "We Will Get Your Children"
Source: NBC

The anger in the threats against AIG executives is palpable.

"Get the bonus, we will get your children," someone identified only as "Jacob the Killer" hauntingly writes in an e-mail.

His is one of dozens of threats against AIG and its employees that were obtained from Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal's office under a Freedom of Information Act request by NBC Connecticut.

threatening children is crossing the line. I would hope that whoever makes such a threat would be prosecuted under the law.

in being a reactionary asshole and deciding that it's OK to murder people. I don't believe in the death sentence. Period. I find your opinion disgusting and completely unprogressive.

52. Right-wingers. With certain Republican leaders calling people to take up arms,
what can you expect. Am I mad about the bonuses? Yes. Would I think of threatening violence against someone just because they took a bonus? Never. It's primitive. It's brutal. It's ugly. It's a terrorist threat if you stop to think about it. On the other hand, I do think that the names of these people should be made public -- especially of the crew in London. They have done criminal acts -- fraud -- and they should be punished but not by a lynch mob and certainly not by threats against their persons or children.

Criminal prosecutions -- probably yes. Due process -- yes.

4. Remember when the Sikh got murdered after 9/11 because he was mistaken for a Muslim ?

It happened in Mesa, Arizona

For Rana Singh Sodhi, the dream remains alive, despite enduring a nightmare. His brother, Balbir Singh Sodhi, was gunned down in Mesa on Sept. 15, 2001 - the nation's first post-9/11 victim of a hate crime. (Balbir Sodhi wore a long beard and turban as prescribed by his Sikh faith; his killer apparently mistook him as being from the Middle East.) Another brother was murdered in San Francisco less than a year later. Friends have been assaulted because of how they look; one man's attackers yelled, "Go back to where you came from!" as they shot him.

48. Actually there are at least some AIG employees who lived in my town
which has NO gated community. One, who I never met, had a child in my daughter's grade. He died in the WTC on 911. I had met his wife and child while volunteering at the elementary school one day.

I have been in gated communities, visiting friends and family- and whether you like it or not some people know MANY of their neighbors and are nice people. The community they support is often the EXTENDED community that includes areas that are economically deprived.

Your comment is as wrong as stereotypes going the other way. There are good people who are wealthy and good people who are poor.

57. There is a difference
You seem to be saying they ALL are bad - to that saying that I know some who are nice people and committed to those around them does counter the statement.

I was not saying that ALL of them were ok, so knowing some who aren't does not contradict what I said.

81. You don't support the extended community
when you take most of its wealth for your own, then return a pittance as "charity".

Right now, our economy is structured so that wealth, with rare exceptions, is inherently parasitical. Short of actively rejecting the privileges of wealth, (most) wealthy persons in the US, no matter how good they may be personally, no matter how "charitable" they may be personally, obtained that wealth my skimming it off the top from the rest who do constructive labor.

They can use the bonus money to build a gilded cage for their families.

Where are the kids going to school?

Where is the family going on vacation?

What about college for the kids?

When your kid is 16, can they get a car as a present, or will they need a driver/bodyguard for life?

Is the fence around the estate secure?

Can your wife go to the hairdresser, or do you need to build a salon at home?

Can you trust the household staff?

Are your kids' friends' houses safe?

How do you know there's not going to be a bomb in the mail?

What if your kid's friend's family is going to Europe and they want the kid to go with?

No amount of money is worth that.

35. Do you really think those making the threats care if
the AIG folk say the money's returned?

It's a case of screwed because it was promised and delivered. Whatever they do now, it's out of the AIG folk's hands. By now, most of those with big bonuses living in the US have handed most of it back. Some haven't, most notably some with $1 as their base pay. (Hey--make $1/year in exchange for the retention bonus, *then* have the retention bonus stripped from you. Apparently *real* progressives don't really like the idea of a minimum wage.)

And Cuomo wanted, for political reasons, to make this possible.

40. The only one I know of that makes $1/year is the new CEO
No one else has this 'deal'. As CEO, he didn't feel he should make more unless the company turned a profit. He's making a statement and setting an example in leadership. The $1/per year is not a common contract. The people who received the bonuses also recieved a salary.

OK they're pissed off over the bonuses.

But threatening kids????

OTOH, if those AIG execs really fear for the safety of their families, they would do the sane thing and give the damned bonuses back. All of them. All of the money.

If they don't, then I guess that's an indication of their priorities. Seeing as how they're so scared for their kids and all...

54. Be careful AIG....the wealthy HATE to lose their gold.
Nobody likes it, but the somewhat comforting part of it all is the wealthy have taken the screw much greater than the impoverished. I've lost plenty, and I don't think the losing is over yet. But I don't have the millions locked up in tax shelters like so many of the more affluent do, and I suspect some of those "no taxes" types are ready to buy their automatic weapons and bolt themselves up from the inside soon enough. With beck preaching his lunacy, I think there are probably a LOT of wing nuts "...that are mad as hell, and they're not going to take it anymore!"

In all seriousness, this is pathetic news to hear. Certainly if laws have been broken, I'd be the first to call for their indictments. But if all was legal, according to the laws of the time...well, live and learn.

64. Obviously such threats
Edited on Thu Mar-26-09 03:21 AM by fujiyama
are not acceptable in any civilized society and those making such threats should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Threatening people, even greedy crooks like these execs is against the law and is counterproductive. Threatening children is especially beyond the pale. I think everyone can agree.

However, it's clear that we have come to a point where there is so much frustration and anger that the rich and greedy aren't so isolated anymore. These people need to realize how many lives they have basically upturned. While Obama may sympathize with most Americans and understand the anger, these ass holes are still taking in the money and it's obvious that to a large extent, nothing has really changed.

However like some others have suggested, I'm not even convinced of the legitimacy of these threats and it's best to just let such threats be investigated by law enforcement. I wouldn't put anything past these people. They could very well be fabricated to get sympathy and distract the government and public from the fact that they are basically criminals themselves, guilty of looting and plundering the treasury.

65. maybe AIG execs hate their own kids for not giving up what they don't deserve
anyways which is resulting in these threats.

69. These threats,...
... might have actually been made, might be fabricated, are probably talk either way.

In any event, if I were one of those "execs", I'd be getting used to it. This whole debacle is just beginning and millions will die because of these fucks.

70. First, many of the threats were on a comment board. Second,
many of those by email (of course) revealed the senders' email addresses, and often, their phone numbers. Third, the one phone call message was reported from an employee or former employee, who then said that no follow-up was needed. Why would that be?

Just don't know if there are any credible threats here. Teach public school for a couple of decades and see what sort of baseless threats you get.

<snip>
Surprisingly, some of those making the threats left their e-mail addresses and phone numbers - making the job of law enforcement officers easier.

<snip>Among the documents is an e-mail from an unknown individual, who may be or may have been an employee: "Just arrived home to several threats on the answering machine. 'Give your money back or else,' terrible things going to happen, etc. Both private caller numbers."

http://www.nbcconnecticut.com/news/local/Internal-AIG-Documents-Reveal-a-Scramble.html

<snip>
The documents were peppered with threats that were later made against top executives by the public using a comment submission form on the AIG website.

<snip>An employee or former employee sent an e-mail March 19 to the Financial Products Operating Committee saying:
“Just arrived home to several threats on the machine. ‘Give your money back or else’, terrible things going to happen, etc. Both private caller numbers. One at 633pm and one at 540pm. Don’t need follow up, please report them, though.”

71. The attacks on the children of the working class are not threats, but real harm, every day
Lack of decent health care kills actual kids, and the corporate toadies fight health care reform like it's poison.

Lack of funding for education degrades the opportunities and life chances for real kids, every day, but the corporate toadies tell us we "can't throw money at the problem," while they themselves throw $25,000 to $40,000 a year at their own children's education, from kindergarten on.

There is no doubt that the threats received by the AIG executives are disgusting and dangerous. But the danger remains hypothetical and potential. The actual damage is being done constantly to the children of the working class, in real time and systemically, and I suspect that NBC Connecticut could spend more time talking about that if they weremn't just running a soap opera rather than a news bureau.

82. The elite kills a bit of your children everyday. They are screwing public education on purpose.
They don't want an educated working class.
They want despaired young men ready to be shipped to the next war.

76. Yes, and when a failed developer torches houses for insurance money . . .
He's careful to spray-paint "ELF" on a nearby property.

But there's plenty of evidence of the base side of human nature.

84. Simple solution: Move into a tent city
Like those destroyed by Bush/Wall Street.
Once the execs have lost everything and move into a storage shed, they'll be ignored forever.
Problem solved.

Tina Garland, an out-of-work truck driver, in the kitchen area of the tent she shares with her husband in Sacramento.
