NY judge orders release of CIA 'torture' documents

Mar 27th, 2009 | NEW YORK -- A judge has given the CIA a month to begin releasing documents related to the destruction of videotapes of detainee interrogations.

Judge Alvin Hellerstein in Manhattan federal court says the CIA should start turning over the information and a list of witnesses to the American Civil Liberties Union within 30 days or explain why the agency should be exempt.

The judge reviewed the CIA documents and on Friday gave the agency until April 9 to produce a schedule for releasing them.

An ongoing criminal probe is exploring why the CIA destroyed videotapes in 2005 that document new harsh questioning techniques.

13. The penalties for shredding may be greater than those for
simply producing the documents. It is disappointing that Obama has not kept his promise of transparency and already released all of these documents.

5. What the fuck is all this about videotape?
I would think these interrogations were broadcast live feed via encrypted transmission to the Pentagon or CIA. I would think they would have copies of all this in their massive computer archives.

Videotape, what is this, 1980? Bah!

The CIA has one month before it must begin releasing reports documenting its destruction of videotapes of detainee interrogations as part of an investigation into its prisoner questioning practices, a federal judge in New York City ruled.

Otherwise, the agency must explain why it should be exempt from doing so. .............

18. Why is "torture" in quotes? That's exactly what happened.
Is this more of the same propaganda that says Americans are not capable of torture?
