Wise central to Lynch events--Politics not behind effort, governor's assis
http://www.dailymail.com/news/News/2003072821/

Pfc. Jessica Lynch thanked only two politicians when she took the stage in her native Wirt County last week, her first public appearance since her capture and rescue during the fighting in Iraq.

Amid a hero's welcome covered by media worldwide, Lynch said Gov. Bob Wise and Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va., helped reunite her with her family while she recuperated at military hospitals in Germany and Washington, D.C.

Both had aided the family, arranging flights and guiding them through the passport process. They even directed the building of ramps and railings at the Lynches' Palestine home to accommodate the 20-year-old supply clerk's injuries.

Notice how she doesn't thank Bush!

7. All in all, I'd rather ...
be alive than have a mountain named after me in Arizona, but I guess it's a nice gesture.

4. Without googling:
Lori Piesta (sp) was Lynch's best friend. She died driving the truck. Shoshanna Johnson was the young woman shot up and take POW.

I may have bastardized their names, but I'll never foregt their faces or contributions.

10. An interesting article about Shoshanna Johnson
I found this article on Shoshanna Johnson. One of the most interesting things about this article is it gives credit to the Reverend Jesse Jackson (along with Johnson's father) for saving the lives of Johnson and her fellow captives.

3. Wow!
That is the most critical article on the whole Lynch affair that I have read (there may be others but I have not seen them).

Why am I NOT surprised that this criticism is focused at a Democrat's involvement in it?

8. Wise is trying to cover his ass since he was busted for an affair
earlier in the year

I think it he is playing politics with it.

6. Sure, she thanked the pols who helped REUNITE her with her family, ...
not the one who sent her on a fool's errand.

9. Unfortunately, the "real Jessica" may continue unnoticed.
Due to misinterpretation of gender in Iraqi comm intercepts:

Seemed to me that they were handing out Bronze Stars to the 507th bunch like they were National Service Medals. Not the first time; too bad that it is not uncommon when the brass have their needs.

Probably the article is right, and they don't want to bring any focus to his being left behind*, if that happened.

* these were not Marines, ooorah!
