China launches new English-language newspaper
Source: Associated Press

BEIJING (AP) — China's Communist Party began publishing a new English-language newspaper Monday in a campaign to push the party line in international media.

The English edition of the Global Times will "cover the world from a Chinese perspective, and reflects the standpoints and opinions of Chinese people on significant international issues," the official Xinhua News Agency said in a report.

It quoted Hu Xijin, the Global Times' editor in chief, as saying the paper aimed to "to make friends with foreigners and to facilitate communication between China and the world."

The new English-language paper's launch reflects China's new "soft power" drive to build its global reputation, muffle foreign criticism and broadcast the leadership's particular views on issues such as democracy, human rights and Tibet.

1. Thanks for this, I like reading ANYTHING not written on this continent - they have a website too
.
.
.

http://www.globaltimes.cn/

I'll include some of my other non-North-American links to what I read

I've purposely left out common sites I see here like BBC, Al Jazeera and so on as they are pretty familiar to most of you

Check these sites out

http://www.venezuelanalysis.com/

http://www.hindu.com/thehindu/holnus/001hdline.htm

http://www.onlinenews.com.pk/index.php

http://www.yomiuri.co.jp/dy/world/

http://www.haaretz.com/

http://en.rian.ru/

http://www.presstv.ir/default.aspx

http://www.bangkokpost.com/

http://www.khaleejtimes.com/index00.asp

I usually try to read at least 3 or 4 different sites a day -

It amazes me how closeted some people are regarding news.

Some of my friends and neighbors are amazed that I don't watch TV or listen to the radio . .

"HOW DO YOU GET YOUR NEWS?" they ask.

I tell them on the net, and a whole lot more balanced than on TV where you have a limited choice, sites like CNN, FOX, CBS, CBC and so on grab most of the airwaves.

I read China, Russia, Japan, Israel, Venezuela, Australia, England, New Zealand, Iran, Iraq, etc.,

and throw in a wee bit of Canada and the USA media into the mix, just for shits and giggles . . .
