FDA Loosens "Morning After" Pill Rules
Source: cbs news

The Food and Drug Administration, in a reversal of former policy, will loosen restrictions on the "morning after" pill, allowing 17-year-olds to get the birth control without a doctor's prescription, a health official said Wednesday.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the agency will announce that it is complying with a federal judge's order that overturned a Bush administration policy. The official was not authorized to speak publicly before the FDA announcement, expected later Wednesday.

2. Best if older teens have free access to family planning clinics.
Edited on Wed Apr-22-09 02:27 PM by ShortnFiery
The morning after pill has high doses of hormones that should only be used after unprotected sex, i.e., rarely.

It should not be used as a form of birth control ... the traditional - or - lo dose BCP would be better for these teens' health long term.

10. I would hazard to guess...
that most 16 year olds have 17 year old friends.

This is good news. I can't say it much plainer than that.

11. Sure...age is arbitrary. Some younger people may never become
men and women, it is a mental/physical aspect, not an age related one. Depending on the state, there are "age restrictions" on being an adult. Who decided 187, 19, 21 is when a person is an adult, a man or a woman?

Reality 101, many 17 yo's and many that are younger are sexually active. People always have been, and always will be, why not face the facts?

12. I don't agree with 17
IMO if age of consent for sex is 14, 16, 17 or 18 in your state then you should be able to access Plan B as part of taking responsibility for your actions.
