'Nasscom will not demand H-1Bs' (Wants "Service" Visas)
Source: India Times Infotech

8 May, 2009, 1518 hrs IST, Indiatimes Infotech

NEW DELHI: India's apex software body, Nasscom, is no longer lobbying for an increase in the no. of H-1B visas. Seems the organisation, that represents the Indian IT outsourcing industry, realised that with the anti-outsourcing sentiment raging at an all time high in the US, it's time to rejig the strategy.

According to a report in a business daily, Nasscom is redoing its strategy on the proposed H1-B, L1 visa legislation in the US Senate. The organisation is now not talking about H1-B or L1 visa, instead, it wants `service visa'.

A service visa or work permit is aimed at allowing foreign nationals to visit a country with relation to their jobs for a temporary period.

The news report quotes Nasscom president Som Mittal saying that from our prospective, US probably is one of the only countries in the world which does not have what we call a temporary visa or service visa or a work permit. So we will keep working on this and we are quite confident that the Bill (H1, L1 visa legislation) will get converted into comprehensive reforms Bill. Our objective will be not to talk about H1 and L1, but to really get a service visa.

So, India only wants to change the name of the visas. :wtf:
Screw that.

5. Looks like they think the H-1B rules were too cumbersome
and want to ease them. Perhaps they could create their own jobs in India instead. Seriously, we got India on its feet. It is doing quite well. Time for us to leave (and quit importing their workforce) and allow them to support their own country.
