Hoekstra calls for CIA documents to be declassified
Source: The Hill

Rep. Pete Hoekstra (R-Mich.) has called on the intelligence community to declassify documents showing what certain members of Congress were told about harsh interrogation techniques employed in the war on terrorism.

In a letter to CIA Director Leon Panetta and National Intelligence Director Dennis Blair, Hoekstra, the ranking Republican on the House Intelligence Committee, asked that the so-called Memoranda for the Record (MFR) he reviewed last week be released.

Memoranda for the Record indicate subjects discussed at the classified briefings, as well as those who attended.

The request comes after a memo prepared by the CIA listed 40 briefings for members of Congress and their staffs over the past six and a half years, briefings during which records indicate members — including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) — were briefed on the use of enhanced interrogation techniques.

...

Hoekstra's letter is the latest step in a campaign to associate Pelosi with the harsh interrogation techniques used on terrorism suspects. The hope is to tie up potential probes into Bush administration officials over what some on the left call wrongdoing during the war on terrorism.

4. Because he will.

This is exactly the kind of dog and pony show that the GOP tried to distract US citizens with during the BFEE's reign but the citizenry isn't buying it anymore and Obama's folks are SO good at clearing up exactly what's going on in these situations. He will definitely regret this. I faxed him this thanking him for admitting that they'd broken the law and pointing out that Pelosi couldn't have done anything about it if her life depended on it. She had no options, IMHO.
