Carter pushes energy reform plan to Congress
Source: CNN

excerpt - "Collectively, nothing could be more important than this question of energy," Carter said during a rare presidential appearance before a congressional committee.

"I would guess that our entire status as a leading nation in the world will depend on the role that we play in energy and environment in the future."

Carter, who in 1977 famously declared the fight for energy independence to be "the moral equivalent of war," told members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee that reaching that goal is crucial to ending the country's "vulnerability to possible pressures and blackmail."

Right now, he noted, "whether we admit it or not, we are very careful not to aggravate our major oil suppliers."

that last line from the snip I took says it ALL. They slaughter all the people they want, keep women down, hang GLBT people and torture people at will as we just saw in the news recently about tha Saudi royal family member. And we as a country pretty much say nothing to them.

We are held down by our need of what they have...

Shame on the past presidents for doing little to nothing, and what Clinton did, B*sh II did his devilishly best to remove for his corporate owners.

Love that Jimmy Carter!

3. I've learned to love Carter.
I was only a teen when he was upsurped by Reagan. I knew Reagan would win because he was saying the utter shit Americans wanted to hear at the time, but Carter was right. We took a turn for the worse the day Reagan was elected. I have nothing but respect for our former President. I don't know of any Prez who's been more active or has done more good than former President Jimmy Carter.

7. Carter is a fine man, was a good president, who has been villified
by the Reaganists, and is the greatest ex-president in our history.
