O'Reilly Back-Peddles, Tones Back 'Tiller the Killer' Rhetoric on First Show Since Murder
Claims he is victim of 'left-wing' cabal out for him, Fox 'News'...

After years of demonizing Kansas physician Dr. George Tiller who was assassinated in his Wichita church on Sunday, Fox "News" host Bill O'Reilly toned back his inflammatory rhetoric on his first show back since yesterday's murder.

Where he had previously, and repeatedly, described Tiller as "Tiller the Baby Killer", compared him to a Nazi, described him repeatedly as "executing babies" and "operating a death mill", tonight O'Reilly characterized himself as the victim of a "left-wing" cabal of "Fox News haters" trying to "exploit" the tragedy to "shut guys like me down". He did not, however, use the same strident rhetoric that had characterized his "reportage" of Tiller in the past.

"What (Tiller) did was within the law," O'Reilly admitted, following his Talking Points commentary segment in which he identified critics in the media and blogosphere who had noted his years of demonization and dehumanization of Tiller, suggesting some complicity by the man who anchors the most-watched program on cable "news".

In response to a Huffington Post editorial which claimed O'Reilly would "back-peddle" on tonight's show following the murder, he told viewers "No back-paddling here. Everything we said here was true. I stand behind everything we reported here."

He then went on to back-peddle on everything he'd reported there...

3. And if he hadn't, you'd be accusing him of dancing on Tiller's grave.
Look, I loathe O'Reilly as much as anybody...but him voicing his opinions didn't break any laws and I don't have a problem with him showing some restraint after the man's murder.

5. No, the question is
the reason for the backpedaling. You seem to think he backpedaled out of respect for the dead. And if you think that, you're brain dead.

He did it for self preservation. In no way, shape or form does he want to be seen as contributing to this act of terrorism.

6. No, I think he did it for completely selfish reasons.
He knows that many (even many of his own viewers) would have a problem with him continuing his attack on a dead man.

He may be a horrid little man, but he's smart enough to know that he hasn't broken any laws. This was about appearances, not avoiding prosecution.

29. This goes way beyond 1st amendment rights
for Mr. O'Reilly. Who, in my opinion, should be
indicted as an accessory his words and pronouncements
in this matter are "shouting fire in a crowded theater."
One need not be present or participate in the crime but
I truly feel his words did incite the act by this lunatic
and for which he and Fox must accept some responsibility.

10. I only ask one thing.
If someone does so such a thing, let us also recognize that event as a crime and an unjustifiable act.

This ain't just my bleeding heart doing the talking. That worm doesn't deserve martyrdom.

15. It is time for civil suits
It is my sincere hope that Dr. Tiller's family files civil suit against every individual and group that have been inciting hate and violence. This is not free speech. Yelling "fire" in crowded theater is not protected speech. What O'Reilly, Dinwiddie, Terry, Army of "God", et al have been spewing is not free speech. The DHS report was spot on. I suspect not a single republican has the balls to bring up the DHS report now. Nor will they will have the balls to get anywhere near the abortion issue. Franken should be seated by end of the month. It is time to deal with the biggest threat to the US and that would be our home grown terrorists.

18. I watched him. He didn't tone back the rhetoric much.
Kept claiming "my analysis was based on facts", and other such bs. And then cried that he's a victim. It was disgusting. He needs to take responsibility for his role in this.

Orally, you are a miserable piece of shit and a poor excuse for a human being. And you're a yellow bellied coward too. Sitting there in your broadcast booth fomenting violence might be fun and games to you, but there are real consequences to the filth you spill every day.

22. It figures
O'Reily does not give a damn about what happened to this guy or his family. He is simply trying to ease the damage that he does to his imag. This guy said that there is a special place in hell for the murder victim a while back.

28. Playing victim. Talk radio playbook
the other side is to simultaneously claim that he has vanquished the enemy (though it still exists and threatens you). O'Reilly can't do that in this circumstance.

You're Goddamn right Mr. O'Reilly. I do blame you and FOX News for the act of terrorism that happened on a Sunday morning at a House of God in Wichita. Because you demonized Dr. Tiller and influenced a disturbed man to carry out that act of terrorism.
