Militant Cuban exile seeks trial delay
Source: upi

Cuban exile Luis Posada Carriles says he deserves more time to plan his defense against U.S. charges that he lied to immigration officials.

Posada, a one-time CIA operative now living in Miami, says the charges against him amount to terrorism accusations rather than the simple perjury and obstruction counts he has been hit with, necessitating more time to mount a defense, The Miami Herald reported Wednesday.

Posada faces an August trial in El Paso, Texas, on charges that he lied during a hearing to deport him, as well as at another hearing to become a naturalized American citizen. Prosecutors say he misled an immigration judge in 2005 when he was asked whether he had masterminded bombings at Havana's Copacabana Hotel and other tourist hotels in the 1990s.

and hotels and cars.\

He should be be sent to Guantanamo and get to know the detainees - he can tell them what a real terrorist does - one thing that can be counted on is that he would tell them what a superior CIA agent he was and how they blew up the plane.

Remember, this is not a trial over blowing up that plane or any of the other acts of terrorism. This is about an immigration illegality How much time does he need? And when will he be free to be returned to Venezuela for a hearing about blowing up the jet?

The hypocrisy of the U.S. that condemns terrorists and spend a fortune under the guise of fighting terrorists, while terrorists are protected - whether they originally came from Cuba or Kansas or Saudi Arabia or other places - is abominable. This guy has friends in the right places at the CIA and in the Republican Party.

4. The US is defying an extradition agreement w/Venezuela (which has requested his extradition).
The US claims that the US can't extradict him to Venezuela for fear that he'll be tortured. :wow:

5. Silly man. He's afraid he'll bump into some of the people he tortured there
when he obtained Venezuelan citizenship and worked as the head of Venezuela's secret service. They've got witnesses there now who have identified him as the one who had them tortured.

Can't face his conscience in either Cuba or Venezuela.
