Cindy Sheehan plans march on President Bush's new Dallas home
Source: wmgt-DT

Cindy Sheehan, who drew national attention for camping outside former President George W. Bush's ranch in protest of the Iraq War, is following him to Dallas. Sheehan will lead a demonstration Monday protesting "crimes against humanity."

"We can't allow George Bush's crimes to be forgotten just because he is not in office anymore," she said in an e-mail.

While most people in Preston Hollow have gone out of their way to welcome the former president and first lady home, they're not exactly rolling out the welcome mat for Sheehan.

"Go away," resident Kathie Taub said. "Go back! Leave us alone!"

Taub said Sheehan had already protested and should "now leave everybody alone."

...

The march begins at Preston Road and Royal Lane at 4:30 p.m. and ends on Daria Drive, outside the secure entrance to Bush's Preston Hollow neighborhood.

4. I can see some value in having Cindy around to remind us of the Bush misdeeds.
It is not as if he has apologized for getting us into an unnecessary war, approving illegal interrogation techniques, and running the economy and the U.S. reputation into the shitter.

Pelosi got the message, and has been a lot less arrogant since. she might yet be worthy of her position...or finally throw in the towel and resign (before the indictments).

46. The events that have led Cindy to...
...this state are, I think, the roots of self-destructive (or perhaps the better term is self-sacrificial) behavior. There is a doggedness to her efforts that demands respect. Would that we were all driven as strongly about something so important.

Sorry, but I just don't think that because someone is well-entrenched in Washington, others shouldn't attempt to run against them for fear of "wasting their time." I think she would have made a wonderful, outspoken, priorities-in-the-right-place, honest public servant.

8. Go Away Go Back Leave Us Alone
That's a telling command, isn't it? Don't they realize this woman lost her son and the pain of that will never go away. Maybe every time she gets in GW's face it eases her pain. After all, he was responsible for her son's death, and the deaths of so many more. There should be consequences for waging a war of choice, and that doesn't even touch on his barbaric orders to torture.

15. It reminds me of a discussion I was witness to in college @ UT-Austin.
I lived in a private dorm inhabited mainly by affluent white Gentiles and affluent white Jews. During this discussion which had become somewhat heated, the subject turned to the Holocaust and some Aryan from Darien said, 'Can't y'all just get over it and get on with things - why do y'all have to dwell on that all the time'. Stunned silence and he finally got up and huffed away, however, saying under his breath, "Fucking Jews'. I just know he learned this at dinner in Westport

but I also saw an article she was to busy to talk about the "20th anniversary".
Wonder if Cindy would have brought up the student protest?

I know Hillary recently spoke about the issue but she had a long relationship with China going back a lot of years.

She wanted to become president but it seems her support wasn't there. So now she can play the role of b!tch and hit back !! lol

9. Anyone who has not left the house to protest the * atrocities should think twice...
before criticizing Cindy. You may be unaware but when we stand on the corner these days we get a whole lot of honking and peace signs but those * lovers who remain are angry and stop to tell us that we should get a job, get a life and get off of the corner. They have always done this, but these days there is more anger and a lot of hatred. Be very careful when you admonish someone who is still working on the problem that many want to brush under the rug.

24. What a pathetic lemming-like attitude...
Yes we need to protect Democrats at all cost even when they are not truly ending the war (no, keeping 50,000 troops in Iraq and escalating in Afghanistan which even Petreaus said has no al-Qaeda to fight is not ending the war), not closing Gitmo, fighting for even more state secrecy, continuing wireless wiretapping, planning a huge giveaway to HMOs with their healthcare plan, does not prosecute for war crimes or torture, keeps military commissions in place and refuses supposed terror suspects Habeus Corpus, gives tons of money to the same greedy wall street bastards that got us in trouble and allows them to continue to buy bad assets knowing the taxpayer has to foot the bill again...

Yes we should so be protecting all of this CHANGE over what Republicans would do which for the most part wouldn't be all that much different.

Crimes have been committed and if Obama were truly the Constitutional Scholar he claims to be he would have been offended enough to prosecute and defend the Constitution in the future... much like the Oath of Office he took REQUIRES.

The troops killed are still dead, they will never come back.

The issues * created are still with us, costing us every single day. He shouldn't have a moment's peace until they lock his sorry ass up in a cold, dark cell...then he'll have plenty of time to reflect on what he's done.

I support Cindy--she loved her son, and she's going to do everything she can to bring justice to his death.

34. "We won"?
What have we "won"?

I don't see any of the war criminals of the previous "administration" being held accountable.

A second term of Obama is not the end-all for the Progressive wing of the Democratic Party. We'll have to see how that goes. After all "Obama has only been in office for ___ days." (Fill in the blank with the appropriate number.)

And "control of Congress" is only meaningful if it is not controlled by Corporate-MilitaryIndustrialPrisonComplex interests/Financial Institutions/Insurance Companies/etc., which it apparently still is.

In any case, how does Sheehan's march on Bu$hler's gated luxury digs "jeopardize a second term of Obama and control of Congress," anyway?

I'm not the biggest Cindy Sheehan fan in the world, but at least I believe she is honestly motivated in the actions she takes, whether I think it's a sensible action, or not.

Personally, I think it would be great if there were large groups of protesters outside any or all of the homes of previous administration officials/collaborators, 24/7/365.

37. I've got news for you: most Americans now care more about jobs
and health care, and food and shelter, and decent retirement.

The "large group" that you seek to protest are at employment centers, seeking a job, or, if they are lucky, are holding two or three jobs to support their families.

Most Americans do not care about the war in Iraq - unless they know someone who is or was there - except if they stop to think about how all the millions of dollars that we spilled there could have helped here.

I am often amazed about how so many, on DU, and on other blogs, can spend so many hours clicking on their keyboard or watching "the View" with, apparently, independent means of supporting themselves, while millions are worrying about what tomorrow will bring.

And Sheehan, apparently, got some money that she does not need to earn a living, perhaps got some poor sucker who'd pay her expenses to sit in front of Bush's home.

The rest of us have a life to live.

45. Thanks for bringing me up to date...
...on the concerns of "most Americans."

As you may have suspected, I obviously was blissfully unaware of the problems facing this Country and its inhabitants, due to the perfect bubble world I've been dwelling in for all these years.

Actually, being self-employed, I assure you I am aware of these things, but thanks again for your not-so-informative lecture. I'll try to tamp down my disgust at the various war crimes committed on my behalf (and your's too), next time I hear about Cindy Sheehan or anybody else who still takes offense at what occurred during the previous administration's reign of terror.

Speaking of amazement, I'm often amazed at how so many, on DU and on other blogs, are willing to let the war criminals have a free pass on their atrocities. I guess it's due to our "leaders'" inability to do the gum chewing and walking thing, simultaneously.

And from one keyboard clicker to another, I've never watched one second of "The View," ever. I'm too busy living my life.

No one has argued here that Americans care more about the war in Iraq than jobs.

Edited on Thu Jun-04-09 04:21 PM by timtom
We're still in Iraq.
We're still in Afghanistan.
We have no viable solution to the economic maelstrom.
We still have the Patriot Act.
We still have the Military Commissions Act.
There is still a 100-mile corridor around these national boundaries called th "constitution-free" zone.
Yeah! That's what our founding fathers meant.

The middle class and the poor still lose.

67. "Mission Accomplished!"
question nothing. Just shut up and go away.

That playbook didn't work so well for the Republicans. We would be idiots to follow it now.

28. Arlington Cemetery was placed where General Lee could see it from his house
as a reminder of what that war had cost. Bush should be reminded of what he did every single day of his wretched existence.

Rush hour traffic on a major north-south road in the heart of Dallas. I may have to check it out. I'm off Monday for my daughter's graduation Monday morning but it will be long over by 4:30.

Obama owes nothing to people who did not vote for him. Nothing at all.

Obama is the President for all Americans. He owes it to the country to do the best that he can for everyone.

97. Hallepena and Amen! bush* is a war criminal and a treasonous bastard.
There is a concerted movement involving both Democrats and rethuglicans to simply sweep the crimes of the cheney*/bush* years under the rug and "move on." BULLSHIT!!! The crimes and misdeeds of the cheney*/bush* administration are legion. There is no precedent in American history. The Presidency of the United States was stolen from the lawfully and legally elected candidate. The resulting ILLEGAL administration lied to the entire world, manufactured evidence and TORTURED innocent persons to lead the United States into an illegal and immoral war of choice, predicated upon GREED AND VANITY. Sheehan's son was a victim of the cheney*/bush* lies. I hope she NEVER stops protesting and hounding these WAR CRIMINALS!

Thank you Cindy Sheehan!:kick:At least you've got some balls!

102. I guess it depends upon what message she wishes to send -
- if her message is "I hate war criminal Bush" and her motive is revenge, then marching on Bush in Dallas is the right thing to do.

If her message is "Get us out of Iraq" and her motive is to constructively address those who can achieve that goal, then she's barking up the wrong tree.
