FBI: Possible hate-crime charge against suspect

Jun 11th, 2009 | WASHINGTON -- A ranking FBI official says authorities are pursuing a possible hate crime charge as well as a homicide charge against a white supremacist suspected of murdering a security officer at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial and Museum.

Joseph Persichini, assistant director of the Washington FBI field office, said authorities did not have an "open file" on the suspect, 88-year-old James von Brunn, a Holocaust denier. And Persichini stressed that the investigation into the slaying of 39-year-old guard Stephen Johns was still "in the preliminary stage."

Meanwhile, District of Columbia Mayor Adrian Fenty urged tourists to continue visiting the capital, saying "let's not let the act of one mad man set us back."

3. Why not the same treatment for the suspected killer of Dr. Tiller? He is currently only charged with
first degree murder (non death-penalty), not capital murder or an act of terrorism.

4. I don't think abortion doctors are covered by hate crime legislation
Have to be one of the groups on the list or it doesn't count.

5. Possible?
:wtf:

This well-known (in that circle) nutjob encounters his first "enemy", who so sadly opens the door for him... and this jackass pulls out a rifle, hauls off and shoots. There's no "possible" regarding the "hate" with this asshole.

7. Only if he's black and Muslim
Do they charge them with being a terrorist. If he's white he must just be crazy. No hate crime.

8. To what end?
Not that his isn't guilty of a Hate Crime, but he's 88 and and facing a murder sentence. He's already going to die in prison. Wouldn't the money that would be used for hate crime prosecution be better spent going after others who commit hate crimes, but don't face a murder sentence?

10. Under federal law, he can be executed, but I don't know if they need the hate crime element for
that anyway. I'd rather be executed than spend the rest of my life in prison anyway, but not everyone feels that way.
