U.S. frees youngest Guantanamo detainee: lawyer
Source: Reuters

LONDON (Reuters) - The youngest detainee held at the U.S. prison at Guantanamo Bay, seized when he was just 14 years old, has been released after seven years in captivity, his lawyers said on Thursday.

Mohammed El Gharani, a Chadian citizen, was set free five months after a U.S. federal judge ordered him released after reviewing the evidence against him and ruling that it did not prove he was ever an "enemy combatant."

Gharani has already returned to Chad, his lawyers said. There was no immediate confirmation from U.S. authorities of his release.

"The idea that it took seven years and a federal judge to sort this out demonstrates just how failed an experiment Guantanamo Bay is."

1. So, this 21 year old spend ONE THIRD...
...of his life locked up in Guantanamo.

And the evidence showed we never proved he was an enemy combatant, or that he ever did anything wrong.

Why in the hell did it take seven years to prove that?

This is so revolting, I can barely stand it.

If he wasn't guilty---then why was my country holding a 14-year old kid?

What in the hell is going on???

5. I hope more stories like this keep coming out after
the rest of the innocent detainees are freed. The American public should know just how many innocent lives we ruined because of our witch hunt tactics.

12. Two Guantanamo detainees sent to Iraq, Chad (AFP)
WASHINGTON (AFP) — Two Guantanamo detainees, a young man with dual Chadian and Saudi nationalities and an Iraqi, were transferred to Chad and to Iraq respectively, the US Justice Department said Thursday.
