On Monday night at around 8pm Shawna was in her kitchen when she was brutally attacked. She was cold cocked and beaten with a bat or some kind of instrument all over her body. She was also cut with a blade on several locations of her body including her neck. She was raped and she prefers not to release any further details at this time.

There was a large 13 with a circle around it. During her statement she could recall someone calling to "drown the *****" as she was being raped. When in the hospital the officer asked if she had drawn a bath she told him "no". After returning home the next day her tub was filled with water.

She is recovering slowly and in a lot of pain. She remember's a young boy, possibly a white male and another that spoke in Spanish. She believes there to be 3 attackers at this time and in and out of consciousness she recalls some Spanish being spoken. She has had some memory return but it is still blurry.

Shawna has been investigating drug cartel operations from Nogales to Sells. She had broken in pretty deep as far as locations and the ins and out of operations. She was working on discovering the connections here in WA state along with human trafficking of young girls.

Forde is circumspect when questioned about how her group works with law enforcement agencies. In the interview at The Herald, she described presenting what she called "after-action reports" to a man she declined to identify, except to say he is a former employee of the Central Intelligence Agency.

Within Minutemen circles, Forde is controversial. Hal Washburn, vetting officer for Washington state chapter of the Minutemen Civil Defense Corps, said Forde was encouraged to leave the group over questions about honesty and her inability to follow orders. . . .

Forde said she has been diagnosed with attachment disorder. According to the Mayo Clinic and other sources, the condition often affects people who receive poor care when small. Children with the diagnosis can develop lasting difficulty in maintaining stable, healthy relationships.

"It happened. Absolutely. I have no doubt in my mind that it happened," said Chuck Stonex of Alamogordo, N.M. Stonex said he participated in armed patrols with Forde in the Arizona desert in October, not just watching for illegal activity, but also trying to chase down people suspected of cross-border smuggling.

Stonex said Forde told him about freelance investigations that led her to "mountains of drugs and hand grenades and rocket launchers."

I talked to Shawna Forde yesterday about the story written by journalist Scott North of the Everett Herald and she opined that the newspaper story was reasonably fair and balanced and covered most aspects of her life since she was born.

Forde and I both think the newspaper did exactly what it is supposed to do: report facts based on investigation and interrogatories. The story is neither a “hit piece” against Forde, nor a supportive propaganda piece. Simply, it is newspaper reporting at its best and within the professional canons of journalism.

Despite Shawna Forde’s checkered past, here is a woman who really has been a “victim” throughout her life, perhaps willingly, perhaps unwillingly. To have come through the trials and uncertainties of adolescence and young adulthood with odds stacked against you, and to have overcome those odds, is a statement of her willingness to ultimately do the right thing.

Few of us do not have a skeleton in our closet, especially some of Forde’s harshist critics. The harsh critics have managed to hide those skeletons, unlike Forde, who is willing to face up to her mistakes as an imperfect mortal and then to face down demons from her past.

In my experience with Ms. Forde I conclude that she is no whiner. She is a stoic struggler who has chosen to put country, community, and a yearning for a civilized society ahead of avarice and self-glorifying ego.

Simcox leapt from local notoriety to national prominence in April 2005, when he teamed with Jim Gilchrist, a retired accountant in Orange County, California, to launch the Minuteman Project. The cannonball media splash that followed attracted the attention of Diener Consultants. The Chicago-based political consulting and fundraising operation is run by Phillip Sheldon, son of Traditional Values Coalition founder Lou Sheldon, long one of the nation's most vociferous antigay crusaders. Diener is one cog in Phillip Sheldon's revenue-generating machine, which also includes Response Unlimited, a direct-mail firm promoted as "the nation's best and most comprehensive source of mailing lists for conservative and Christian mailers and telemarketers" -- and perhaps best known for ghoulishly purchasing a list of donors to Terri Schiavo's legal fund from her parents several days before her death.

"The modus operandi with Sheldon's operations is consistently the same," writes David Neiwert, the investigator and author behind the leading radical-right watchdog blog, Orcinus. "He panders to far-right interests, obtains their membership lists, and then funnels them to other, mostly mainstream right-wing interests. His client list is a virtual Who's Who of the American right, including the Republican National Committee." Sheldon's other business interests include Rightmarch.com PAC -- promoted as the right-wing nemesis of MoveOn.org -- which shares an address in Reston, Virginia, with the newly formed Minuteman CDC Political Action Committee. . . .

The mailing lists Response Unlimited currently offers for sale include the former subscribers to The Spotlight, a now-defunct, virulently anti-Semitic magazine published by Holocaust denier Willis Carto. There is also, priced at $120 per thousand names, a list of 67,000 donors to the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps. Among the thirty-five organizations that have rented the MCDC list so far are former "Ten Commandments Judge" Roy Moore's failed gubernatorial campaign in Alabama, a group called Stop Puerto Rico Statehood and Oliver North's Freedom Alliance. "What this all means," says Neiwert, "is that when someone contributes to the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, their name and contact information is then given to a whole host of right-wing groups, depending on who's buying."

It also means that the formerly grassroots, boots-on-the-border MCDC is now entrenched in the neoconservative Republican establishment. The MCDC's home page now identifies it as "a project of the Declaration Alliance," founded in 1996 by Alan Keyes to oppose abortion and gay rights. The Alliance's president is former Keyes staffer Mary Parker Lewis, also a former "confidential assistant" to William Kristol, editor of the neoconservative Weekly Standard and co-founder of the Project for the New American Century. Connie Hair, another former Keyes staffer, now handles MCDC's media relations as well as those of Diener Consultants.

The Intelligence Report has obtained a chilling video that Robert Crooks, the leader of the nativist extremist group Mountain Minutemen, E-mailed this summer to several other prominent nativist leaders, including Jim Gilchrist, co-founder of the original Minuteman Project. In the E-mail, Crooks suggests that Gilchrist is a weakling who can "Talk the Talk" but not "Walk the Walk."

"This video shows how to keep a 'Home Depot' parking lot empty," Crooks wrote in his sneering July 26 E-mail, titled "Homeland Defence." Gilchrist, whose organization had earlier provided Crooks' group with supplies, responded by banning members of his organization from any contact with Crooks.

MAD is vigilantism at its heart and "vigilante
justice" is an oxymoron by its very nature.
