Iran's Ahmadinejad attacks foreign media coverage
Edited on Sat Jun-13-09 02:24 PM by Turborama
Source: AP

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has accused the foreign media of coverage that harms the Iranian people after authorities claimed he was re-elected in a bitterly disputed vote.

He called on the public to respect the vote on Friday, after his main pro-reform challenger rejected the results and accused authorities of election fraud.

"This is a great victory at a time when the ... propaganda facilities outside Iran and sometimes inside Iran were totally mobilized against our people," Ahmadinejad said, according to an English translation of his victory speech carried on state television.

"The heaviest pressure and psychological warfare was organized against the people of Iran. A large number of foreign media ... organized a full-fledged fight against our people."

The CNN headline "Breaking: Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad calls his election victory one of the "blessings of God" in nationwide TV address." never turned into an article to back it up, maybe they got the translation wrong or something?

Anyway, this link's got some good pics next to the story...

4. Why do the right wing hate Iran?
What with election fraud, gays being lynched in the streets, women being oppressed, and a group of religious leaders ruling the country, it's a wingnut's wet dream of what America should be like.

Jealousy is the only explanation.

28. Flip it around: why do so many on the left admire, or at least defend, Iran?
Edited on Sun Jun-14-09 11:05 PM by Psephos
To be clear, I'm talking about the Iranian mullahocracy, and its loose cannon, Ahmadinejad.

How many times have I seen posters here rise to the defense of Ahmadinejad's latest verbal provocation with the "he's been mistranslated" dodge?

Way too many.

32. It's not so much defending Iran as ...
... fear of the the dedicated 'anti-ists' whose numbers are also far more inclined to really wage war on foolish precepts of superiority, when Iran is not really as much of a threat as... you guys who insist on treating them as 'the enemy'!

In other words, Ahmadinejad celebrates victory. Not much of a story. Ahmadninelevenjihad's accusations are as credible as his opposition's. Or can someone prove otherwise?

That would be great for the Iranian people if they could overthrow their oppressive government.

I would love to see headlines like this come out of Iran.

26. IRAN: Protestors burn state bank (video)
June 13th. It is getting harder to get videos. facebook and other sites have been blocked. texting is blocked. calls are monitored. etc etc

http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=1a7_1244990008

from the comment section:

Like I said in the other one, the clerics will begin imposing their rule and slowly cut off communications.

Than the reforming comes and they identify all those who protested or the leaders; randomly they will begin pulling people out of the public and give them a grilling on how they should behave. Likely they will send them off into the countryside to isolate them and let the country side dwellers who have no idea what is going on in the world give them some discipline.

The whole irony over this in that they overthrew the Shah and the students wanted an Islamic state because America was the real evil one.

This time America is not going to help you, logistically they have no chance for a Revolution without America's help.

Have fun with Islam and the impending sharia laws about to be pushed on all these students.

We will see if the prediction holds true and I'm not betting a dollar against that posters opinion .

The media "facilities inside Iran" you speak of are not "against" your people--they ARE your people!

Twitter has had to postpone a major system upgrade because of so many tweets from Iran!
