Bush takes swipes at Obama policies
Source: Washington Times

Former President George W. Bush fired a salvo at President Obama on Wednesday, asserting his administration's interrogation policies were within the law, declaring the private sector -- not government -- will fix the economy and rejecting the nationalization of health care.

"I know it's going to be the private sector that leads this country out of the current economic times we're in," the former president said to applause from members of a local business group. "You can spend your money better than the government can spend your money."

Whatever happened to the decorum that former Presidents don't go around criticizing current Presidents. I don't recall any former President taking a dig at his successor so early in the term. After leaving a country in ruins, the best that Bush could have done is to stay silent.

And by the way, he proved his hypocrisy by stating that he won't criticize his successor!

Goes to prove Mark Twain's point: It's better to stay silent and look a fool, rather than speak and remove all doubt

1. Haven't had to listen to his political blather for almost five months.
I guess he was just on another vacation for that time.

Well, it was nice while it lasted.

3. Well, at least Obama *has* policies...
...Unlike the Chimp who simply turned over keys to the nation's treasury to his cronies...

You can spend your money better than the government can spend your money. Perhaps Bush meant to say "You can spend your government's money better than you can spend your money."

6. "You can spend your money better than the government can spend your money."
That's nice populist rhetoric, but not so fast. Let's look at how the private sector and ordinary people spent their money:

The derivatives traders, the credit default swappers, the fools running the auto companies, the dimwits running Lehman brothers, AIG and the banks, and of course the losers who took out loans for homes they had no business buying.

7. Obama should ask Bush to give up his nationalized health care to pursue private health care.
In fact I wouldn't even ask. I would just announce that Bush's statement serves as a request to discontinue his government provided health care and that request will be honored. Then I would cut it off and make Bush sue him to get it back.

85.Alki again? NY Times 9-4-07—Book-‘Dead Certain” author interviewed Bush who said he knew nothing on Bremer decision to fire Saddam’s army. Bremer wrote NY Times saying he personally told Bush and got a letter thanking him and praising him as a great leader. Bremer said many defense officials were told of the decision ahead of time.
Bush is a Recovering Drunk (by admission) so you can understand his faulty memory.
86. 9-6-07 Sydney Morning Herald—phillip cooley—Deputy Prime Minister asked Bush what he saw in Iraq—Bush replied –“We’re kicking ass”—and killing hundreds of thousands and maiming tens of thousands for life—same loon who said this—He was asked what he and Dad talked about when alone. His reply “pussy”. Is he sane? Dead or alive—Bring em on
87.LOON?—In Australia for the APEC summit he made these two very very stupid remarks according to AP 9-5-07 –
To Australian PM--”Thank you for being such a fine host for this OPEC summit”—“Thank you PM Howard for visiting “AUSTRIAN” troops in Iraq last year”. TELL ME HE IS NOT STUPIIID.
88. 2-14-07—Reuters—Bush certain “Iran” was providing weapons to fighters in Iraq. Two hours later he said he had no knowledge Iran officials were part of the arms deal. He is smart? Ho hum.
89. Just dumb remarks—“you know, one of the hardest parts of my job is to connect Iraq to the war on terror”--
“if the Iranians were to have a nuclear weapon, they could proliferate”—“those who enter the country illegally violate the law”—‘It is a time of sorrow when we lose a loss of life”--

93. On Iraq war 9-20-07—“President Saddam Hussein brutality had made it impossible for a unifying leader to emerge and stop the sectarian violence that engulfed the Middle East Nation. I heard somebody say “where’s Mandela”. Mandela’s dead because Saddam Hussein killed all the Mandellas.” Nelson Mandella is alive in South Africa. Yes! He is on Jack again.
94. 9-24-07-Bush was asked if he is an asset or liability for Republicans in next year’s election. His reply “strong asset”.
He has not read the many articles in major papers that the candidates are running frorn his horrible record.

Time for Gibbs to have a daily talking point similar to Olbermann's "Still BUSHED". He should begin today with "A suggestion has been made by the president with the worst economic record in American History. It will be accorded appropriate weight"

Every single time. Fuck the Private Sector little man. You are an ex-president. How can someone who is an elected official of the US government be so contrary to the actual role of the US governement?

Excuse my language, but I'm sick and tired of this anti-public rhetoric. This is a nation by, of and for the people... and our government is here to serve us... the private sector serves it's own petty and individual interests...

27. Bush and Cheney want a showdown on torture, and Obama should give it to them.
They are wrong. It would be best if an international trial could be held. But I can't imagine any country with the courage to speak out about torture at this time. Every western country that accepts the silence on the crimes of torture will unfortunately face the dilemma in the future of what to say when some thug tortures one of their nationals. The current silence will cost a lot one of these days.

Bush and Cheney are taunting Obama on the torture issue. They are succeeding in making Obama look weak, like a "leader" who talks big but can't act. They are making Obama look like just a lot of hot air. Well, Presidnet Obama? Are you just a lot of hot air? Or are you a strong leader who acts on his conviction, who carries through on his ideals, who makes his statements into reality? We are waiting for some courage.

As for the economy, Bush's policies obviously got us into this mess, so he should just hold his tongue on economic issues.

36. Bush hopes closing Guantanamo won't risk security
Source: Associated Press

ERIE, Pa. (AP) — Former President George W. Bush said Wednesday that he hopes that his successor's plans to close the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, will not compromise domestic security. Bush, though, maintained during an appearance in northwestern Pennsylvania that he would not criticize President Barack Obama, though he did discuss his policies.

"I will just tell you that there are people at Gitmo who will kill Americans at the drop of a hat," the nation's 43rd president said at a dinner held by a group of business leaders in Erie. "Persuasion isn't going to work. Therapy isn't going to change their mind."

Bush has made just a handful of public appearances since he left office in January, though his hour-long session before a friendly crowd of about 1,600 touched on familiar themes in reminiscing about his eight years in the White House.

The topic of Guantanamo Bay arose during a question-and-answer session, in which e-mailed or submitted questions were screened and chosen by a moderator during the event.

"I certainly hope not," Bush answered when asked if he thought Obama's plan could compromise security before adding, "I told you I would not criticize my successor."

Bush reminded the audience that he had also remarked during his presidency that he thought the detention facility should eventually close, and that detainees should be able to have hearings — referring to military tribunals.

"I just want to make sure that when people have a hearing ... we don't have to give away our secrets in order to protect you," he said, drawing applause.
...
Bush demurred when asked who could lead his own Republican Party in the 2012 presidential race, saying he would wait until at least after the 2010 midterm elections.

"Invite me back — I'll give you my opinion," he said.

48. Interesting choice of words
Bush: "I will just tell you that there are people at Gitmo who will kill Americans at the drop of a hat," the nation's 43rd president said at a dinner held by a group of business leaders in Erie. "Persuasion isn't going to work. Therapy isn't going to change their mind."

Karl Rove: “Conservatives saw the savagery of 9/11 in the attacks and prepared for war; liberals saw the savagery of the 9/11 attacks and wanted to prepare indictments and offer therapy and understanding for our attackers, Democrats Demand Rove Apologize for 9/11 Remarks.”

I detect a little codespeak here. I don't personally think Shrub is clever enough to come up with this by himself. I think he's still being handled.
