(Rep. David) Obey, (Rep. Maxine) Waters in noisy floor fight

Two Democrats got into a verbal altercation — and according to one a physical one — on the floor of the House on Thursday night over an appropriations earmark one was seeking.

After the House floor had largely cleared following a series of votes, Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) and Appropriations Chairman David Obey (D-Wis.) split apart from a heated conversation and began yelling at one another.

“You’re out of line,” Waters shot while walking down toward the well.

“You’re out of line,” Obey shot back before turning and walking away.

Obey turned away, but Waters went to go huddle with members of the Congressional Black Caucus. She could be over heard telling them: “He touched me first.”

A Waters aide said that Obey had pushed her.

Yes, he's become way too comfortable with his status. Let's hope there's an progressive democratic challenger in his very next primary? :evilgrin:

... he has never failed to stand up for the Constitution and the rules of the office he holds, unlike so many on both sides of the aisle who've been all too keen to govern with their finger to the media wind or bend rules to make themselves or their crony companies richer off the taxpayer dime.

But it sounds like Waters was completely wrong for escalating a fight over an earmark that was completely against the rules to begin with...

Sounds like even with her "revision" she was still aiming to funnel money to the school with her name which is against the rules.

If Obey pushed her, it was over the line and wrong but she should have known better than to create a ruckus about an obvious rules violation.

Don't we want Better Democrats, not the same old same old? Not defending Obey, but if this is true we should not be defending Waters either.

But let's be serious, even if it's a completely wonderful cause you should not be using your government position to funnel money to something named after you. Complete conflict of interest.
