Honduran army cuts media after military coup

TEGUCIGALPA, June 29 (Reuters) - Honduras has shut down television and radio stations since an army coup over the weekend, in a media blackout than has drawn condemnation from an international press freedom group.

Shortly after the Honduran military seized President Manuel Zelaya and flew him to Costa Rica on Sunday, soldiers stormed a popular radio station and shut international television networks CNN en Espanol and Venezuelan-based Telesur, which is sponsored by leftist governments in South America.

A pro-government channel also was shut down.

The few local television and radio stations still operating played tropical music, ran soap operas and aired cooking shows on Monday.

So much for the idea that this was a legitimate arrest procedure.

they were overturning the results of their last Presidential election, and stealing their choice from them.

By putting a curfew in place for at least the next two nights they attempted to make sure that when the people found out, they wouldn't be able to congregate and protest, if they were made to be too afraid they would be shot on sight.

They intended to control the people's reaction, and took elaborate measures to make sure they could pull it off in secrecy.
