Sanford Admits More Encounters With Mistress
Source: KDKA TV/CBS

South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford is admitting more encounters with his Argentine mistress than he previously has disclosed.

In a lengthy, emotional interview with The Associated Press, the governor described seven meetings with the woman, including their first in 2001. Sanford says there have been five over a 12-month period, including two multi-night stays with her in New York.

It was the first disclosure of any get-togethers with her in the United States and contradicted a public confession last week during which he admitted to a total of four encounters in the past year.

He previously announced he would reimburse the state for money spent during a government trip to Brazil and Argentina in June 2008. But he insists no public money was used for any other meetings with her

1. Why is his crumbling marriage relevant?
Who cares? If he can't keep his d!ck in his pants, why does the media assume we are all interested?

For the rest of us it's fun to see the Repuke hypocrites and false moralists get caught in their own web of lies relating to sex. Sanford was among those who thought Clinton should've been drummed out of office for his dalliances & lies. Now Sanford thinks he should hang on to his office.

On edit - as others said he probably used SC taxpayer money for his trysts.

Besides I'm tired of the MJ coverage.

4. Well, he did use taxpayer money for some of his shtups
and he did abandon his office for nearly a week, leaving staff no way to find him.

He also abandoned his kids on Father's Day, which is really tacky.

People aren't going to move on until the sack of shit is out of office.

12. He used tax payer money for his little trip to visit his sweetheart.
Even though you may not be interested I am and so may the people of South Carolina. I think this merits an investigation to his travels and spending habits. If he spent state money for one tryst then who knows who else or how many times he's misused funds for his sexual exploits.

into Gov. funds for these trysts is a real possibility.

excoriating Clinton, I'm more than delighted to spend a few minutes each day laughing my ass off at the foibles of a middle-aged crazy rightwing, Jesus-quoting fool.

I will continue to point and laugh, because I 'care.'

He needs to resign and not because he had an affair, but because he left the country and his job without making preparations in case of an emergency.

6. Why would he ask his wife for permission to visit with the mistress?
That is the part that boggles my mind. I mean, think about it. Like she was going to say "yeah, go do your thing." A married person asking "permission" from their spouse? Even non-marrieds, singles in a relationship asking "permission" to do anything is oh so...1850's...

20. LOL.
She had a lot more control here, than a lot of women in similar situations. She has the money and she has the brains. He does not appear to be her equal. Though the same could be said of him with his mistress. Both women seem out of his league. It's not at all clear what either of them were doing with this tool.

19. I'm with you. This is an odd story
From the articles about it, he asked repeatedly. WTF? To ask once blows my mind but repeatedly? and her response was 'Absolutely Not".

I can't imagine that being my response to a question like that from my husband.

But I've got some hot-headed Latin blood pulsing through my veins.

The permission thing is really weird. Not a good sign at all. The marriage was a train wreck before all this happened, if this was the dynamic going on.

28. Who asks such a thing, repeatedly?
Her answer was not clear enough that he kept asking. Really, did he expect her to say, "sure go ahead. Send me a postcard" Asking once is a clear indication he's not committed to the marriage. what did he think was going on? Did he think he was in a time out? The whole thing is bizarre and makes me think we the people have dodged a bullet. Imagine a president asking his wife for permission to do stuff. So not executive level material, no matter how he was being packaged by his wife and her money.

Edited on Tue Jun-30-09 01:06 PM by defendandprotect
"Now I am frightened," he told the AP, describing his state of mind at the time. "It was before safe. But now it's not safe. We gotta put the genie back in the bottle."

I'm aware of the general outline of the story, but not all the details --

However, does it look to anyone else like living a GOP lie may be strangling him?

And, does he still seem to be fighting the ambitions which led him to that GOP corrupt lie/life?

32. Sanford Admits He ‘Crossed Lines’ With Other Women
COLUMBIA, S.C. -- The Associated Press is reporting that South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford said he has “crossed lines” with women other than his mistress.

During an interview with the news agency, the Republican governor admitted to meeting his Argentine mistress on more occasions than he admitted last week.

In the lengthy, emotional interview with The AP, Sanford described seven meetings with the woman, including their first in 2001. He said there have been five over a 12-month period, including two multi-night stays with her in New York.

It was the first disclosure of any get-togethers with her in the United States and contradicted a public confession last week during which he admitted to a total of four encounters in the past year.

Sanford also admitted during the interview that he has “crossed lines” with other women, but has never had sex with them.

The governor called Maria Chapur, an Argentine woman who admitted to a relationship with him this week, his soul mate. He said that he will try to fall back in love with his wife.

39. The exposition of this fool's hypocrisy is gratifying; however...
At the end of the day, the only relevant question is, how well has he served the interests of the electorate? Are they better or worse off for his service? Politics shouldn't be about the politicians' personal lives... that is a foolish conceit that the republicans foisted on us. So yeah, I'm having a great laugh watching their house of cards fall down around their ears, but we ought to be mindful not to perpetuate their foolish game (lest it burn us in turn.)
