Sen. Byrd released from hospital
Source: The Hill

Sen. Robert Byrd (D-W.Va.) was released from the hospital Tuesday and is resting "comfortably" at home, according to a statement from his office.

Byrd, 91, will continue physical therapy at home after contracting a staph infection during his hospital stay. He entered the hospital for a minor infection, his office said.

"I am pleased to be home in anticipation of celebrating our nation's birthday with my loving family," Byrd said in the statement. "I also thank everyone who sent me their good wishes and prayer."

1. He's a strong one
Lucky for him that he still has a strong will to live.

4. Too bad he doesn't have a strong will to retire
What a pompous sack to run for reelection when you're 90 years old and living in a hospital.

11. Sorry but I have no sympathy for the old man
I can't wait until he retires and ends the sorry history of the Democratic Party and the Ku Klux Klan. Yeah I know he's apologized for being a kleagle. Good apologize and retire you old homophobe and racist.

6. Maybe you would be happier with Congresswoman Capito (R) in his Senate seat.
That was a distinct possibility if Bobby had decided not to run in 2006.

7. you're scaring me
fortunately, we have a strong challenger to her now when Byrd steps down - in the form of our wonderful progressive Secretary of State Natalie Tennett
and, though I'm not nuts about him, Manchin could easily wipe the floor with Capito.

9. I like Anne Barth too.
But I worry about Manchin, particularly the prospect of his appointing himself. If people around here think the likes of Lieberman and Specter are DINOs, wait till they get a load of him.

12. I would trade both of mine (Cornyn and Hutchison) for Byrd
Seriously you could have worse pompous sacks representing you. The entire state of Texas is without good Senate representation.

3. Staph ???
Bet it's MRSA/VRE. Hospitals and emergency rooms are loaded with it and are breeding it like rabbits. My father got it and was dead ten months later thanks to "the acceptable standards of health care" in Tennessee and Virginia. Clearly PROFIT CARE comes ahead of PATIENT CARE in America. http://www.wisecountyissues.com/?p=62

8. Hospitals are not for the sick, but if anyone can survive it, it's Byrd
I love that man, could listen to him speak for hours, in spite of how slow he speaks. MRSA is a nasty bug, I got it 6 yrs. ago and self diagnosed 2 yrs ago after endless "ailments". The source was the parent hospital of my PCP, so naturally no confirming test was done, just massive antibiotics prescribed that ended 4 yrs of being sick. Glad he found it before it killed him. He is a national treasure. MRSA is everywhere. Anyone with recurring infections should be tested.
