Couple who adopted 12 children slain
Source: CNN

(CNN) -- Eight children were found in the Florida home of their slain parents, who apparently were the victims of a home invasion, police confirmed to CNN Friday. The couple was found shot Thursday night in their Beulah home, said Escambia County Police spokesman Sgt. Ted Roy. One of the parents was shot in the head, he said. Beulah is about 17 miles northwest of Pensacola.

5. Wow
Edited on Fri Jul-10-09 02:34 PM by Brooklyns_Finest
Couldn't they just take what they needed and let the adults go free? Shit, at least let the woman live. Who is going to take care of those kids? These kids finally get a good home and now they will go back in to the system. This is a truly tragic story.

This is why I have firearms at home. I might not get to them in time to protect myself, but it at least gives me a chances of survival if I can. We live in a very savage world, this should never be forgotten.

7. they could, but they don't give a shit
they gave no more thought to killing those people than they would have to squashing a bug. Home invasion crosses a big line in the sand, and appeals to reason or humanity are lost on someone who does it.

10. "At least let the woman live"?!!?
Is there something wrong with my thought processes or yours?

Are you saying if you have a choice, always shoot the guy?

13. Probably
I am old school. Men should be prepared to make the ultimate sacrafice to protect their families.

If I am on the offensive, it would be a lot easier for me to shoot a man than a woman.

15. Wow.
They truly walked the walk.

The only silver lining in this seems to be that the parents were quite wealthy, and I can't imagine they didn't have plans to provide for all their kids.

Between older siblings, and whatever money they had, everyone should be okay - financially.
The loss of such wonderful parents, though... that will be much harder.

8. I was robbed twice in the last 2 years....
The first time, my elderly dog was injured. I swore that I would shoot anyone dead that I ever found breaking into home from then on. I also have gotten my dog a "sister" with VERY LARGE teeth.

16. Any person who walks past a barking dog when entering your home
is not there to steal. A person who breaks into my home past a barking dog has a 100% chance of being fired upon with no warning, as soon as they are visually identified. Normal thieves will just go on down the road to find a house with no dog.

17. Old dog is a Shiba Inu and he NEVER barks...
In fact he's so quiet that he's been known to steal food right off a plate without anyone noticing. Hard to believe he's 14 now. The new dog is an Anatolian Shepherd and she can make some noise! If someone were to somehow get past her, I would make sure they would leave the property at room temperature.

21. I heard about this awful incident
What I found most disturbing was no apparent motive. Has it been established yet? I would assume it was a robbery but it didn't sound like it was known for sure. I think the family had a large house and were well known...Hope they find the killer(s).

24. I saw the video surveillance of the suspected murderers two days ago posted on another web site
interesting comments about taking in foster children posted at the link. What incidents in the past gave reason for the foster parents to install video cameras on their property as if it was a quicky mart/gas station ? I understand the foster parents also owned several businesses and were taking in special needs kids in a program sponsored by the state according to other sources ;

Parents of 16 children who adopted 12 slain in home

Video: Home surveillance of killers outside of residence.

# Eight children found in home with slain parents
# Byrd and Melanie Billings had adopted 12 children
# Parents were found shot to death in their Florida home, near Pensacola
# Authorities hunting three men in a red van in connection with slayings

snip

Authorities are looking for three males in a red van in connection with the slayings, Roy said.

from WEAR ABC 3;
ESCAMBIA COUNTY - Byrd and Melonie Billings were shot multiple times in their own home while their children were present.

This was taken with a surveillance system outside the Billings' home. Investigators believe this is the vehicle use by the people who murdered the Billings.

Escambia Sheriff David Morgan says around 7 pm Thursday this red van pulled up to the Billings home. The back van door opens and 3 people dressed in black get out and run to the house. The sheriff says they forced their way in through two doors and shot the Billings multiple times. Sheriff David Morgan/Escambia County: "We are developing some persons of interest which we will release at a later date."

Here's another look at the van, investigators believe it's a 1970's or 80's Ford or Dodge 15 passenger van. It would have been in the 9700 block of Mobile Highway sometime around 7 pm last night.

in a nutshell;
Taking in troubled kids can lead to trouble

.........
An old girlfriend of mine, her sister used to take foster kids from troubled families. I told her in private to be careful of whom she was letting in her house and treating like family, but she rebuffed me. About 4 months later, she took in this 16 yr old girl, who's mom and step dad had a serious drug problem. All was well for about a month, then the kids parents got out of jail, and robbed the whole family at gunpoint late at night after everyone was asleep. the 16 yr old let them in, and they roused everyone in the house, and ransacked the place after stealing all their jewelry, medications, and cash. It caused a lot of emotional distress for that family, and they didn't trust people like they did before. Its disheartening to open your home to someone, provide food shelter and comradery for them, and then have them savagely rob and beat you.

26. 2 persons related to at least 1 of the 4 foster children NOT found in the home ?
inside job is a strong possibility. I wonder if the media ( outside of that city ) will continue to follow up on the rest of the children.
